EHS Manager – Upstream Chemicals
Runcorn onsite – Up to £80k basic plus benefits
Our client is a global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of specialist chemicals that play a fundamental role in enhancing everyday lives. As the EHS Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Safety, Health, Environmental, Industrial Quality, Security, and Regulatory requirements for the business's UK operations. You will provide leadership and professional technical advice to plants, projects, and UK corporate offices by leading and managing the SHE and Industrial Quality system across all company’s UK locations.
Responsibilities:
* Be the overall lead for the business UK expert for Safety, Security, Health, and Environmental matters to ensure legislative compliance within the business – lead the SHEQ&S teams and influence the management teams to sustain and improve SHEQ&S standards.
* Identify, define, and implement the requirements of SHEQ&S policies, standards, processes, and procedures to achieve and maintain world-class SHEQ&S performance. Monitor and assess potential future Safety, Health, Security, Industrial Quality, and Environmental issues to determine the impact on and from future business strategy.
* Develop and maintain technical knowledge and understanding of the SHEQ&S operational activities of the various sites to ensure that the sites retain their license to operate.
* Manage all regulatory licenses and permits e.g. COMAH, EPR, Specialty chemicals, Hazardous Substance Consent, climate change levy, ESOS/ISO50001, and ISO 9001/14001/45001 to ensure that the sites can continue to operate legally.
* Maintain oversight, provide necessary direction, and support the process safety management (PSM) and behavioral safety improvement processes across the business by leveraging the strengths and resources within the SHEQ&S team.
* Manage, via team, the deliverance of a technical training and competence management system which ensures that technical and operational staff are trained and deemed competent to carry out their role using the latest thinking.
About You:
* Minimum: Graduate in a chemical/scientific discipline.
* Professional safety and health qualification e.g. NEBOSH diploma would be essential.
* Further education/qualifications in safety or environmental areas would be desirable.
* Formal leadership/management qualification or courses would be desirable.
* An established technical background with 10 years’ experience in a production or operations environment and a minimum of 3 years in a regulatory position for an upper-tier COMAH site (or equivalent).
* Some experience of directly managing other SHEQ&S professionals is essential. Management and leadership experience is a key requirement and differentiator for this role.
* Proven experience with management systems including design, implementation, and auditing (ISO 9001/14001/18001 or 45001).
* Technical competence in a broad spread of specific topics e.g. process safety, environmental regulation, occupational safety.
* Influencing and rational persuasion skills.
* High safety standards result-oriented concern for impact and analytical skills.
