We are looking for a Consultant to join the Department of Rheumatology at the James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to cover a period of maternity leave. The appointee will be an individual with enthusiasm, strong self-motivation and the skills necessary to contribute to the development of our patient-centered rheumatology service. The post-holder will form part of a multi-disciplinary team approach to care within the speciality.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients under their team. The appointee will be sharing with medical, nursing and administrative colleagues, responsibility for the day-to-day management of Rheumatic diseases. The appointee will share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Rheumatology Department.
The post also involves 2 sessions at the emergency assessment and discharge unit.
Job responsibilities
1. Provide consultant medical services to patients admitted to the emergency assessment and discharge unit (EADU) and supervise junior doctors involved in the care of these patients.
2. To provide Rheumatology services for the trust which includes running outpatient clinics, supporting specialist nurses, supporting day unit and seeing inpatient referrals.
3. Provide with the other Consultants a system of mutual out-of-hours cover for Acute and General Internal Medicine and cover for annual, study and professional leave.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
* MBBS or Basic Medical Degree
* MRCP or equivalent
* Hold a certificate or being within 6 months of completion of training or being on or eligible for the UK Specialist Register at the date of interview.
* Full GMC registration

* MD/PhD
Experience & Knowledge

* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Rheumatology
* Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems within General Medicine.
