We are looking for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse to join our Respiratory ward/ NIV Unit. We would like someone who is passionate about service development and providing high standard of patient centred care. You will be working closely within a multidisciplinary team of staff including Respiratory Consultants, Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists. The successful candidate will provide respiratory intervention such as taking charge of the Acute NIV service which is nurse lead, and you will also be expected to take charge of the ward. You will need to have a flexible approach, enthusiastic and passionate about respiratory nursing.
Our successful Sister/ Charge Nurse will be able to work alongside the team in a leadership role to assist in the enhancement and development of Respiratory services, with a particular focus on the delivery of high-quality care within a busy and acute environment. You will oversee the clinical shift and be dedicated to ensuring a high standard of care is delivered and patient safety is maintained.
You must be able to provide support to junior members of the team and maintain patient safety. Successful candidates will actively assist and support the ward manager to ensure the effective management of the ward and represent in their absence. You must be flexible in being able to work as part of a 24-hour service.
Main duties of the job
Job Summary/Job Purpose:
1. Combine excellent clinical practice with day to day shift coordination and undertake leadership and management responsibilities in support of the Ward Manager.
2. Continually support and work in conjunction with the Ward Manager including deputising/taking charge of the clinical area/team in the absence of the Ward Manager.
3. Run NIV services.
4. Provide supervisory management and leadership skills in a clinical environment which is complex and pressurised.
5. Provide professional nursing leadership and guidance (in line with NMC standards), clinical advice and undertake management and monitoring activities to ensure the effective delivery of high standards of nursing care at all times.
6. Work alongside the nursing team members, providing support to junior colleagues in the provision of direct care.
7. Proactively contribute to the implementation of the NMC Standards for education (2018) including the standards for student supervision and assessment.
8. Provide leadership and role modelling in the development and mentorship of new and other staff.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
