Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist for Major Trauma

Job overview
Are you an Occupational Therapist with a keen interest in Major Trauma? A rare opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist to work within our welcoming and friendly Major Trauma team in Salford!
You will take an OT clinical lead role on the Major Trauma wards, leading a team of band 6 and 5 OT's, assistant practitioners and therapy assistants. You will provide specialist OT assessments and interventions for patients with complex physical, cognitive and psychosocial needs.
You will be supported by an experienced and highly skilled MDT and receive access to our award winning leadership programmes, direct supervision, appraisal and peer support.
We welcome applicants who are experienced at band 6 looking to progress your career in a training capacity towards a band 7 role, or an existing band 7 wanting to work in this dynamic clinical area where evidence-based practice and joint working are embedded, and service development and CPD are encouraged.
Main duties of the job
1. To take the lead in the advanced assessment / treatment of Major Trauma patients, who may have complex presentations.
2. To develop treatment plans, recommend where rehabilitation input is required, commence the rehabilitation process, support flow through the Major Trauma service and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
3. To be an expert in the holistic assessment of needs of Major Trauma patients.
4. To lead assessment, liaison and decision-making process on behalf of the MDT, and effectively liaise and communicate with the patient and external agencies.
5. To be a source of expertise and undertake a significant caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience.
6. To plan, co-ordinate and evaluate the Occupational Therapy Service provided within Critical Care on a day-to-day basis and support the wider Occupational Therapy Service as required.
7. To support and lead the Occupational Therapy team in the delivery of evidence based and client centred care within the speciality of Major Trauma.
8. To monitor and improve standards of care by efficient use of resources, utilising clinical audit and research within this clinical area.
9. To work as an autonomous practitioner being professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your work, managing your own caseload and maintaining patient and own records.

Person specification
Minimum Requirements
* Dip COT or BSC in Occupational Therapy.
* Clinical supervisor training.
* Leadership and supervision skills.
* Experience of working on TAU and Trauma Rehab / patients with complex needs.
* Spasticity management / splinting skills.
* Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to develop business cases for change and contribute to the development of service Single Year Operating Plans.
