Main Responsibilities
As a Journalist:
* You’ll be a producer for BBC Radio Somerset’s daytime programme presented by Simon Parkin. You’ll work every day with the presenter and alongside another producer.
* You will be pitching stories and guests - and planning/booking the daily show.
* You’ll also play a role in creating digital content for BBC online, social media and BBC Sounds.
* You may occasionally be asked to cover other shifts on the rota, which could include early or late shifts, or weekend working.
Are you the right candidate?
You will:
* Be a self-starter who knows a good local story and how to find it.
* Have the ability to use technology as required. You’ll ideally have experience of the technology required for on-air studio programme production.
* Be able to demonstrate a creative approach to story-telling.
* Build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people, especially the programme presenter and fellow producer.
* Have significant experience as a journalist (especially programme production), with a good knowledge of production techniques.
* Have effective planning and organising skills, ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
* Demonstrate sound editorial and policy decisions based upon a clear understanding of the BBC’s distinctive news agenda, the requirements of news and current affairs coverage and the audience.
* Understand how a team works effectively.
* Demonstrate a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the BBC.
* Have the ability to write creatively in an engaging manner and edit audio to a high standard.
* Have an understanding of health and safety procedures and how they apply to broadcasting.
