Job Type: Permanent Build a brilliant future with Hiscox The role: In this leadership role you’ll work within the Specialty division catapulting the profitability and accelerated growth of the Events book within the UK. Working across current and future distribution channels you’ll lead the underwriting growth and deliver against the financial plan. Reporting to the Head of Specialty you will be at the heart of our underwriting and distribution strategy for the Events Sector. You’ll identify and investigate new and exciting opportunities for growth through distribution, pricing, product innovation and underwriting. You will also lead an established and high performing events team who operate within a fast paced niche sector, developing their skills and expertise within the sector, and underwriting capability. You will be involved in product development, underwriting and dealing with some of the largest clients and brokers in the events sector. What you’ll be doing: Develop, lead and grow key strategic relationships with brokers, associations and buying groups within the sector. Be accountable for identifying, investigating and developing new and exciting opportunities for growth through distribution, pricing and product innovation. Lead underwriting by managing complex risks and detailed referrals. It is therefore essential that you are technically astute, have strong relationship management skills and are driven by an exceptional service ethic. Deliver the financial plan and lead the accelerated growth of the Events book, ensuring both the top line and bottom line hits budget. Use a range of management information and data to identify underwriting rules and process improvements to improve the customer experience, drive profitable growth and our underwriting strategy. A key part of the role is to inspire, lead and develop underwriters, through targeted coaching and training. Ensure that all aspects of product, pricing and underwriting conform to general compliance, governance and TCF principles. Maintenance of policy wordings, Technical Underwriting Guides and input to all customer facing materials. Provide thought leadership both internally and externally. Design, develop and implementation of our sales and portfolio underwriting strategies; including delivery of superb service to both our brokers and (future) direct customers. Look for ways to improve the effectiveness of the events underwriting team. Our must haves: Ability to set and execute a clearly defined strategy to achieve our ambitions for this sector Experienced Underwriter with a proven track record of successful underwriting OR someone with strong insurance distribution experience In depth knowledge of competitors, products and propositions within the market In depth knowledge of the Events Sector and understanding of current and emerging trends that will influence Insurance Purchase Degree qualified, although this is not a pre-requisite for an exceptional underwriter Ideally ACII qualified or exempt through relevant experience as defined by the FCA Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills Analytical proactive and creative, can think on their feet and ‘outside the box’ Ability to distil complex issues into clear, simple strategies and plans.
