Job Title: Shift Manager Reporting to: Operations Manager Hours required: 39 Hours of work: Monday - Thursday 14:00 - 22:00, Friday 12:00 - 18:00. However, whilst in training hours will be Monday - Thursday 8:00 - 17:30, Friday 8:00 - 13:00. Manages/supervises: Evening Team which will consist of: Machine Technicians, Packing Operatives, Hygiene Operatives & Warehouse Operatives. Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays Job Context: Due to continued steady business growth, an excellent opportunity has arisen within Calleva. We are looking for a Shift Manager to join our team and take full ownership of setting up a brand-new evening shift, to extend our production hours. Job Purpose: This role is primarily to take ownership, organise, co-ordinate and control all aspects of the factory, production, manufacturing, plant, and machinery on the later shift. You will be the senior Manager onsite during non-office hours with responsibility for H&S including Incident Controlling, Quality & Food Safety. Excellent organisational skills are needed, as well as the ability to pay attention to detail. Self-confidence and good decision making are also a key attribute to the success of this role, as is the ability to motivate co-workers and colleagues. You must also be able to operate in a logical and systematic manner, and good judgment is crucial. Monitoring and always maintaining excellent hygiene standards. Main Responsibilities: • Ensure health & safety and food safety rules and procedures are always complied with. All incidents and near misses are recorded/reported and corrective actions are implemented. Able to lead any evacuation incident calmly and with required leadership. • Monitor production of all products always ensuring compliance with the Company’s Food Safety and Quality Policy and Procedures • Work closely with the Operations and Quality department ensuring the team is complying with legal, customer and quality standards • Monitor product standards and implement quality control procedures. • Working with the Operations Manager, build and establish an efficient, motivated, flexible, and co-operative team ensuring each shift is adequately staffed to complete the workload. • Provide management, support, and leadership to staff on all aspects of factory operations maintaining clear and high standards and expectations. Offer technical support and solutions (continuous improvement) so that the business and customers’ expectations (quality and lead times) are met. • Be responsible for driving additional recruitment and training. Also ensuring a positive and pro-active onboarding procedure is achieved. • Organise the team and its workload on a shift-by-shift basis in all areas of production including bulk powders, bulk gels, and retail packing. Making best use of resources to ensure performance is kept to a high standard and all targets are met each shift. Ensuring there is always clear communication with the Operations Manager and additional hours are agreed before being implemented • Attend weekly planning meetings or any other necessary meetings as required • Liaise with the Office to ensure that stock and supplies are available to avoid production delays • Monitor production processes and liaise with Operations Manager and Planning department if schedules need adjusting • Complete all training records as and when completed by staff and make sure all QMR docs are kept up to date • Carry out GMP audits and maximise GMP performance escalating any issues outside of your control with proposed solutions to the Operations Manager as appropriate. • Be flexible towards working hours ensuring all company and customer requirements are met • Have a positive pro-active mindset to getting the job done with a right first time every time attitude and encouraging all others within the factory to do the same. • Plan and deliver annual reviews along with 1-, 3- and 6-month probationary reviews for all new staff plus regular 1:1’s with all members of your team • Ensure effective 2-way communication between peers and team members. • To manage the hygiene operative’s daily workload ensuring a high standard of hygiene is maintained across all areas including machinery and process, achieving, and adhering to food hygiene standards • Be responsible for site security during non-office hours while ensuring a safe and secure shutdown at the end of each shift (including machines, lights, air conditioning etc.) and that the factory/premises are left locked and secure. • Any other duties, as directed by senior management What will make you successful? To be successful in this role, we expect you to have experience working within the FMCG manufacturing environment and quickly gain strong alignment amongst internal stakeholders, with proactive initiative and attention to detail. Other key attributes: • Leadership experience within FMCG Manufacturing essential (food or drink preferred) • Able to work effectively under pressure, in a fast-paced production environment, with a high energy, positive and can-do attitude. • Experience of coordinating and growing shifts. • Ability to demonstrate on the job coaching & mentoring to develop your team and bring them on the Calleva journey. • Computer competency skill level intermediate as a minimum standard • High aptitude for problem finding & resolving with your team. • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or six sigma practices, not essential but preferred. • Experienced First Aider with an up-to-date certificate would be desirable. Essentials: There will be some “essential” attributes that must be evident for the successful candidate, these include: • Confident in making decisions in isolation • Experience in leading a team out of normal office hours • Good H&S experience including evacuation scenarios & incident controller responsibilities • Quality decision making • Trustworthy • Experience of managing people through the whole employee life cycle • Evidence of successful projects delivered with a continuous improvement mindset, whilst also solving daily manufacturing challenges. • Demonstrating and understanding safety, engineering, quality, labour and H&S regulations. • Educated to a degree level or equivalent
