JOB SUMMARY: The post holder will assist and contribute to the development and provision of an effective and integrated social work service to children with disabilities and additional needs. They will manage a caseload of disabled children as well as co-working with other relevant professionals and providing support and advice to other services working with disabled children. Act as a Lead Professional within the Team Around Child Model to ensure co-ordination of support for children with complex additional needs. The post will involve out of jurisdiction work.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The post holder will be based in the Child Development Service and will undertake, as required, social work led needs assessments within current service thresholds, in close liaison with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
2. To ensure children's holistic needs are met by working closely with parents, carers, colleagues and other agencies, ensuring the child is central to all planning.
3. To form positive working relationships with professionals from other departments and agencies.
4. To prepare reports for meetings, reviews, panels and Court and to represent The Committee for Health and Social Care in legal proceedings.
5. To maintain case recordings and file's in accordance with professional standards.
6. To ensure that Legislation, Policies and Procedures in relation to disabled children are adhered to and to contribute to the development of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
7. To contribute to a positive culture within the Team that promotes mutual respect and good professional standards. * To participate in the Emergency Duty Service.
8. To actively participate in the delivery of multi-agency training to enhance understanding of the issues for disabled children and their families.
9. To undertake such other duties as may be determined by the Head of Service
KEY CRITERIA:
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
10. A Professional Social Work Qualification CQSW, Dip SW, Social Work Degree or equivalent.
11. Ongoing registration with SWE. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
12. Minimum of three years post qualifying experience with children and families with knowledge and understanding of relevant Guernsey Legislation.
13. Experience of undertaking assessments, care planning, completing Child's Plan's and compiling court reports.
14. Good presentation skills, especially with regard to presenting information at panels, meetings and in court.
15. Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels both orally and in writing with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with people of all levels, including specialist communication skills and understanding.
16. A thorough knowledge of The Children's Law 2008, particularly in relation to disabled children.
