Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 4-5 months

The Public Spaces Strategy & Projects Officer will be responsible for the development of medium and long term strategies for the management and improvement of the council’s open spaces and sports and play facilities in line with the Council’s priorities, policies and procedures, including provision for monitoring, reviewing and benchmarking.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop medium and long term strategies for the management and improvement of the council’s open spaces and sports facilities in line with the Council’s priorities, policies and procedures and including provision for monitoring, reviewing and benchmarking.
Oversee the management and delivery of agreed projects within the council’s open spaces to meet identified corporate objectives, budget and target timeframes, ensuring robust management and monitoring of any external contracts.
Ensure that all strategies and projects comply with current legislation, including health and safety regulations and safe systems of work, and all legislation that impacts on the management of open spaces. You will plan for the impact of future legislative changes.
Identify potential savings and new income opportunities and sustainable ways of working.
Encourage community participation and partnership working to conserve, maintain and develop public open spaces, working with local groups, volunteers and the public on activities and educational and biodiversity initiatives.
Maintain an excellent relationship with customers of the Council and its elected members responding to queries and issues and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
Produce management information and records including updating information systems.
Assist in providing strategic coherence across the Council where services overlap with other service responsibilities and objectives.
Monitor in year budget spend and plan future budgetary provision for strategies and projects in accordance with the Council’s financial strategies and priorities and liaising with planning colleagues regarding CIL and planning obligation allocation and spend.
Qualifications:
5 GCSE Grade C or above (including Maths & English) or equivalent level qualifications.
Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Advanced knowledge and experience of managing sports facilities and open spaces, including those with heritage and nature conservation and habitat value, in a local government context, with experience in partnership working in a dynamic environment.
Excellent presentation skills and the ability to adapt content in order to provide advice, support and guidance on legislation, policy and process relating to the development and implementation of strategies and projects relating to open spaces to elected Members, colleagues, the council’s management team, contractors and external stakeholders.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and customer focussed approach with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders of the service.
The ability to deliver strategies and projects in a high pressured, political environment to meet corporate priorities on time and within budget.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
Full UK driving licence and have use of a vehicle for work.
