St George’s School, Edinburgh seeks an experienced and motivated IT Network Engineer / 2nd / 3rd Line support to join the IT Team to proactively support, assist with planning, implementation, updating, maintaining and monitoring the Schools network systems and infrastructure. Knowledge of Windows Server environments, Office 365 and Windows 10 & 11 is essential, as is the ability to analyse and resolve hardware and software faults swiftly with good communication and organisational skills. This role is based in Edinburgh School site and will involve technical support of staff and pupils as well as the installation and maintenance of hardware and software across the site.

Main Responsibilities:
General:
1. Work directly with other team members and third parties to ensure stability of network and server infrastructure.
2. Deliver technical support and preventative maintenance processes to prevent and limit the impact of ICT issues.
3. Provide excellent customer service to staff and students.
4. Assist in the management of the ICT Helpdesk.
5. Manage business as usual requests using Helpdesk system.
6. Provide coaching to the ICT Technician.
7. Propose system and process improvements to ensure IT provision is up to date and efficient.
8. Set up & maintain AV equipment as required for internal and external events.
Hardware and Application Support:
1. Maintain, upgrade and minor repair a range of Network Switches, Servers, PCs and peripherals; install complete applications and troubleshoot basic problems.
2. Maintain user accounts on Active Directory and MS Azure cloud services.
3. Assist in deployment and management of PCs and devices for normal operation.
4. Perform routine maintenance tasks, including installing software packages and setting common configuration options.
5. Detect, diagnose, and resolve PC, Servers, peripheral and application errors.
6. Install and set basic configuration options for equipment such as switches and Wireless Access Points.
7. Move and/or set up equipment across the school campus.
8. Work as part of a team and adopt flexible working practices.
Health and Safety:
1. Clean and maintain equipment.
2. Carry out basic safety checks.
3. Follow relevant H&S procedures and raise awareness among staff, pupils and other users.
The Support and Management of the School's ICT Service:
Configuration and Installation:
1. Manage networking hardware (firewalls, routers, wireless access points & switches).
2. Manage server hardware (Virtual Machine environment & physical servers) – including hardware replacements, if needed, acceptance test procedure for new ICT equipment, and End user devices.
3. Use & support cloud services (O365, print services, Ticketing systems & Email Filtering).
4. Use network monitoring tools to troubleshoot networking issues.
5. Update records of installed hardware and software; Software Deployment and Maintenance.
6. Standard Operating Environment Development and Deployment
7. Mobile Device Management using MDM tools for Configuration and Troubleshooting.
8. Manage Endpoint Protection.
Continuity, Maintenance and Security:
1. Use Client Management Services to push security updates & software.
2. Carry out operational routine checks and maintenance procedure.
3. Identify requirements for consumables and equipment as required to minimize downtime, and advise head of IT.
4. Ensure backup, virus protection and security procedures are up to date and followed.
5. Note risks to ICT systems and suggest precautions; follow extended maintenance procedures.
6. Determine high level performance test scenarios that need to be executed.
Support Request Management:
1. Using the Helpdesk system, respond to support requests according to school procedures, record detailed diagnostic information and use appropriate knowledgebase/logs to inform diagnosis and resolution.
2. Determine whether an immediate solution is both required and possible; ensure steps are taken to find a permanent solution if not immediately possible.
3. Create and maintain technical documentation.
Internal Support Arrangements and External Contracts:
1. Report on variations to contracted services and escalate contract/warranty issues appropriately.
2. Note problems in maintaining service levels; track external support calls and report performance of external contracts.
Personal and Professional Development:
1. Attend relevant courses and actively seek to broaden knowledge and skills relevant to responsibilities.
Communications:
1. Support staff and pupils in the use of ICT resources through direct interaction and by producing simple help sheets.
2. Make routine contacts with external contractors and suppliers.
Educational Awareness:
1. Attend and support staff training sessions, to increase personal understanding of how ICT is used in specific contexts.
2. Read school policy documents, schemes of work and curriculum plans; attend relevant meetings.
The post holder will be expected to carry out such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.
