Description
The R&D and Applications engineer will work within the Engineering department based in the Knowles Precision Devices R&D centre in Norwich. From Norwich, support is provided worldwide for multilayer ceramic capacitors, RF inductors, planar capacitor arrays, EMI filters, capacitor assemblies and other capacitor types, both for R&D and for customer based Applications Engineering.
This R&D and applications engineering role will work within the Engineering team, answering technical queries, providing support to customers (external and internal) on electrical and electronic as well as mechanical matters, conducting internal and external product training, carrying out datasheet and catalogue updates and maintaining spreadsheets used to control and document product approvals. The position also involves product design and development work on customer specific requirements and R&D projects to develop and introduce new products and extended product ranges.
Key Responsibilities
* To work within a team to support the internal and external sales teams with technical enquiries, interact and support other members of the Engineering and Quality teams and as necessary other Knowles capacitor group companies
* To work within a team to support off shore manufacturing with technical order handling, administration, costing and custom MLCC design work
* To support existing test lab work and develop new or modified tests as necessary to gather data
* To participate in new product development and the design of new or modified parts and their transfer to production.
* To work to develop processes in support of new product design
* Manage and assist with manufacture and evaluation of samples in support of product development, plus generation of associated reports and presentations including managing the processes to ensure deadlines are met
* To provide Application Notes, technical articles and data sheets and to ensure that these together with the catalogue and web based technical data is always current
* To assist in sourcing and specifying test equipment, then design and execute lab testing to gather the data necessary for technical support.
· In addition to these functions employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Skilled and practically experienced in analogue electronics, preferably with discrete component knowledge
* Ability to interpret whole or part customer circuits to enable technical discussions around passive component performance
* BTEC / HNC / HND, BS degree preferably in Electronics / Electrical Engineering or related subject, or with appropriate experience
* Practical experience with electrical & electronic circuits to facilitate laboratory testing
* Able to manage large amounts of data whilst ensuring very high levels of accuracy
* Experience in Microsoft office packages (word, excel etc).
* Strong writing skills suited to writing and formatting datasheets and customer orientated technical notes.
* Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities within a fast-paced workplace
* Strong attention to detail and propensity for accuracy of work product
* Strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills
