Principal Engineering Geologist - Bristol/Cardiff
This role is pivotal in delivering technical excellence, providing strategic guidance, and driving innovative solutions for infrastructure, environmental, and construction projects.
As a Principal Engineering Geologist, you will manage multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, liaise with clients, and ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Leadership:
o Oversee geotechnical and geological investigations, analyses, and designs.
o Provide expert input on rock mechanics, slope stability, foundation design, and ground improvement techniques.
o Review and sign off technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
2. Project Management:
o Lead complex engineering geology projects from inception to completion.
o Manage budgets, timelines, and resource allocation effectively.
o Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and best practices.
3. Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
o Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
o Represent the company at client meetings, technical forums, and industry events.
o Prepare and deliver compelling project proposals and presentations.
4. Team Development:
o Mentor and train junior geologists and engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
o Promote collaboration within the team and across departments.
o Support recruitment efforts and contribute to succession planning.
5. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
o Champion a strong safety culture across all project activities.
o Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
o Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and sustainable practices.
Job Requirements:
1. Education:
o Bachelor's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
o A postgraduate qualification is desirable.
2. Professional Certification:
o Chartered status with a recognised professional body (e.g., CGeol, CEng).
3. Experience:
o Significant experience in engineering geology or geotechnical consultancy, including leadership roles.
o Proven track record in delivering large-scale, multidisciplinary projects.
4. Skills:
o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
o Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., SLIDE, Plaxis, GeoStudio).
o Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
o Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
