PS Personnel are pleased to be working on behalf of our clients, who are currently seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join their team based in Norwich on a full-time, permanent basis. Role Summary: Responsible for the surveying and dismantling of equipment, cleaning and surveying the equipment to drawings, rebuilding small sub-assemblies and assembling new mechanical assemblies. This role requires flexibility of working within all of the MRO / Fitting areas of the business. Excellent fitting / bench fitting skills are required to ensure the equipment is surveyed and manufactured to the highest industry standards. Main Responsibilities: Working as part of the Survey / Fitting team in modern, open plan manufacturing environment. Working and communicating with other departments e.g. Mechanical Fitters, Wire Persons, Test Engineers and Engineering. Occasionally required to support operational requirements for the MoD in the UK and/or overseas. Occasional opportunity to support Field Service Engineers on outwork in the UK or overseas (optional). Pressurised role working to tight time schedules. Specific tools will be provided to complete the job, you will need to provide your own hand tools. Undertake a full programme of training under direct supervision to becoming a Mechanical Fitter. Surveying / building / manufacturing items from component level to sub-assembly level through to assembly of complete systems (on occasions) under direct supervision. Receiving and carrying out work instructions from your MRO Manager. Booking time worked to the correct cost code using the company’s ERP system. Recording survey results. Training and supporting other personnel within the MRO / Fitting areas when own training is complete. Any other such duties that may be reasonably compatible with the nature and scope of the role. Person Specification: A skilled, experienced mechanical fitter. Machine builder, assembly technician. Completed a recognised apprenticeship as a Mechanical Fitter, Machine Builder, Assembly Technician or similar. Must be educated to a minimum of NVQ / City & Guilds level 3 in a relevant discipline. Able to read and fully understand technical engineering drawings for assembly and component parts. Must have excellent bench fitting skills using a variety of hand and electric tools. Be able to use a selection of manual machine tools such as Lathes, Milling Machines, Surface Grinders and Pedestal Drills, working to tight tolerances. Ability to use precision measurement equipment such as Micrometers, Vernier’s and Slip Gauges. Experience in using lifting and slinging equipment. Must be a good team player with the ability to work using own initiative when required. Must have the aptitude to produce workmanship to the highest industry standards. Must work in a safe and orderly manner to ensure all company H&S standards are adhered to. Must work at an acceptable pace to meet deadlines, without sacrificing H&S & Quality standards. Must be willing to train or be trained by others when required. Must be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised when required. Knowledge of working within the Defence Industry (Desirable).
