Job Purpose:
The Teaching Assistant (TA) will provide dedicated support to children with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) in both classroom and small group settings. The role is aimed at assisting in the development, inclusion, and educational progress of these children, ensuring they are engaged, supported, and given the tools to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the Learning Environment:
1. Assist the class teacher in the delivery of lesson plans, tailored to the specific needs of students with MLD.
2. Provide one-to-one and small group support for children with MLD, ensuring they understand instructions and tasks.
3. Adapt learning materials to suit the individual needs of students.
4. Encourage participation and active learning, supporting students in a range of academic and social activities.
2. Student Support:
1. Work closely with students to help them develop their learning skills, confidence, and social abilities.
2. Implement and monitor specific learning strategies designed for children with MLD.
3. Assist students in managing their behavior, promoting positive social interactions, and resolving conflicts when necessary.
4. Provide support for personal care or other needs where required (e.g., mobility, eating, and toileting).
3. Collaboration and Communication:
1. Work with the class teacher and SENCO to track the academic and social progress of children with MLD.
2. Support with preparing and maintaining individual education plans (IEPs) or similar documents.
3. Liaise with parents and carers to report on students' progress and behavior.
4. Participate in meetings with the school’s multidisciplinary team (e.g., therapists, psychologists, and specialists).
4. Monitoring and Reporting:
1. Observe and record students’ progress on a regular basis.
2. Help assess students' learning needs and progress, providing feedback to the teacher.
3. Support the collection and organization of data for progress reports.
5. General Responsibilities:
1. Uphold the school's policies and procedures, ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students.
2. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a positive, nurturing, and supportive classroom atmosphere.
3. Attend relevant professional development sessions and training to enhance knowledge of MLD and inclusive education practices.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
1. Essential:
1. Experience supporting children with special educational needs, preferably with Moderate Learning Difficulties.
2. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with additional learning needs.
4. Ability to adapt to the varying needs of children and work collaboratively with staff.
5. Basic knowledge of child development and special educational needs.
6. Ability to follow instructions and work independently, as well as part of a team.
2. Desirable:
1. Experience in a school setting, particularly in an SEN or MLD-focused role.
2. Qualifications in special educational needs support (e.g., CACHE Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
3. Training in areas such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language support, or behavior management.
4. Understanding of safeguarding practices and child protection policies.

Pay: £91.52-£94.72 per day
