Job Summary
We are recruiting for a part time band 4 physiotherapy associate practitioner position within the Inpatient Physiotherapy Team at UHND. The role is based within the medical specialities covering, working across Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and General Medical wards.
This is an opportunity for career progression for an applicant who holds the relevant skills to apply. You will work alongside Physiotherapy staff and the wider MDT and your development will be supported by senior staff working within these areas. Outstanding organisation and communication skills are required in order to support with the assessment and rehabilitation of patients.
The successful applicant will receive training and support to achieve their competencies in patient assessment, treatment approach and discharge planning.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work as part of the wider physiotherapy team to provide inpatient rehabilitation to clients in a range of settings within inpatients at UHND. The role has a 7 day working requirement, with contribution to a weekend working rota.
The successful applicant will work independently and as part of the team to provide physiotherapy assessment and treatment to clients on the medical, surgical, frailty and orthopaedic wards, working alongside other physiotherapists and assistants. They will also carry out administration tasks to support the service.
Supporting the inpatient physiotherapy team as a physiotherapy associate practitioner will involve working with physiotherapists, other physiotherapy assistants and members of the MDT and independently carrying out assessment and treatment plans supported by the physiotherapist.
The patients will have a wide range of conditions and require a range of physiotherapy treatment including providing walking aids and carrying out mobility and strength rehabilitation with the aim of supporting patients to safely return home or support discharge flow into the community hospitals for further rehabilitation.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social care (or equivalent).
Experience Essential
* Experience of clinical supervision.
* Therapy specific role extensive experience of working within an acute and or community hospital rehabilitation environment with physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
* Experience working in a hospital setting with an inpatient client group.
* Basic competency training in: mobility, assessment, progression of mobility, provision of walking aids, stair assessment, passive movement, passive stretches and individual exercise programmes.
Special Skills and Knowledge Essential
* Experience working as Physiotherapy Assistant working at Band 3 or above.
* Evidence of Team working
* Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Good organisational and problem solving skills.
* Ability to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner.
* Ability to observe and record physical and social changes of a patient.
* Able to organise and prioritise work on a daily basis to meet service demands.
* Confident in the use of email and basic IT skills.
