About the area The Minderoo OceanOmics Centre at UWA is a collaborative initiative between UWA and Minderoo Foundation. This collaboration supports the ambitious goal of Minderoo OceanOmics Program to transform ocean conservation by advancing marine genomics and environmental DNA (eDNA) technologies. Located in the Bayliss Building on the UWA Crawley Campus, the OceanOmics Centre integrates a joint Reference Genome, eDNA and Computational Biology laboratories. These facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art high-throughput sequencing technologies, liquid handling robotics and computational infrastructure. The OceanOmics Centre is staffed by a team of researchers and technical personnel who are also part of the UWA Oceans Institute, a multidisciplinary research institution based in the nearby Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre. About the opportunity Provide expert technical guidance in genomics technologies, high-throughput sequencing, and laboratory automation. Support eDNA and genomic lab operations, helping coordinate the process from sample collection to sequencing data production. Engage with staff, students, and visitors to integrate researchers into lab activities while upholding safety and effectiveness. About you Relevant tertiary qualification in science (e.g., genetics, genomics, molecular biology) or demonstrated equivalent competency. Substantial relevant experience with DNA extraction methods, high-throughput sequencing library preparation and sequencing platform operation, including troubleshooting and optimising novel protocols and assays. Proven analytical skills and substantial experience in applying QA/QC standards for molecular biology and high-throughput next-generation sequencing. Substantial experience with research laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including safety protocols, ethical standards and data management practices.
