About me and the role
I live in my own home and need support with personal care, activities, preparing meals and housekeeping.
I am looking for a trusted companion to support me to improve my confidence, independence, communication, and general wellbeing while keeping me safe and helping me to enjoy life.
We are looking for a positive, supportive, and proactive individual with experience of caring for people with additional needs.
The successful candidate will be employed by my sister as my budget holder and care manager and will become part of a small support team. Full training will be given through shadowing existing team members.
Tasks and duties
Food and drink
1. Preparation of meals / snacks
2. Working with the client to prepare his own drinks and meals where possible
Managing personal hygiene
1. Maintain personal care routines including support with washing, changing clothes, shaving and brushing teeth
2. Support with personal healthcare appointments as needed
Interests and community access
1. Support to explore different interests both inside and outside the home.
2. Support to access the local community to enjoy preferred activities
Maintaining the home
1. Support to ensure the client's home and garden is kept clean and tidy.
2. Encourage the client to engage in simple household activities to build confidence in this area
General
1. Develop and maintain routines that the client is comfortable with including day, and night routines.
2. Follow the client care plan and direction from the team leader.
3. Gently encourage communication through relationship building

Essential

4. Previous experience in a similar role
5. Able to communicate effectively in English
6. Able to work around smoking (outside only)

Days and times of work
The client needs 24-hour support and 9.5 hours of 2:1 care and is supported by a small team to promote relationship building.
Long Day shift: 07:00hrs – 20:15hrs
Short Day shift: 08:00hrs – 17:00hrs
Night Shift: 20:00hrs – 07:15hrs
(Some flexibility around hours possible if needed)
Shifts are agreed with the team leader and generally will rotate depending on team needs / preferences. There is likely to be opportunity to occasionally work more hours if desired. We are looking for a team member who is willing to cover some night shifts.
Terms and conditions
1. The Annual holiday entitlement will be equivalent to the work which would normally be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.
2. The post is subject to the following:
3. A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
4. Satisfactory references from two referees are preferable but not essential.
5. Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 6 months.
