Energy Trading Business Analyst - Contract Location: Birmingham/Solihull (3 days onsite) Salary: Day Rate up to £550 with some flex (Inside IR35) Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with stakeholders (traders, risk managers, and IT teams) to gather and document business requirements for energy trading systems. Analyze trading workflows and identify areas for improvement. Translate business needs into functional and technical specifications. Support the implementation or upgrade of Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems like OpenLink Endur, Allegro, or bespoke solutions. Conduct gap analyses to align the system with business requirements. Identify process inefficiencies and recommend system or workflow enhancements. Act as a liaison between business units and technology teams to ensure successful project execution. Develop and manage project documentation, including requirements traceability matrices and test plans. Ensure timely communication and resolution of project risks and issues. Create test cases and conduct system testing to validate that changes meet business needs. Facilitate user acceptance testing (UAT) and gather feedback for system refinement. Ensure energy trading systems comply with industry regulations such as REMIT, EMIR, or Dodd-Frank. Support audits by providing required documentation and insights. Analyze trading data to support decision-making. Develop custom reports or dashboards to provide visibility into trading performance, risks, and compliance metrics. Conduct workshops and training sessions for end users. Provide updates to senior management and stakeholders on project progress and outcomes. Key Skills and Qualifications: Technical Knowledge: Experience with ETRM systems such as OpenLink, Allegro, or similar platforms. Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau). Understanding of API integrations and middleware solutions. Domain Expertise: Strong understanding of energy trading markets (electricity, gas, renewables, oil, etc.). Knowledge of trading lifecycle processes, including front, middle, and back-office functions. Awareness of energy market regulations and compliance standards. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to perform detailed data analysis and process mapping. Strong problem-solving skills for identifying and addressing operational inefficiencies. Communication and Stakeholder Management: Excellent interpersonal skills to bridge communication between technical and non-technical teams.
