Special Collections and Archives have received funding to sort, repackage, and catalogue several archive collections. The majority of the collections that are the focus of this project form part of the UK Philanthropy Archive, a national archive collection of the papers of trusts, foundations, philanthropists, and fundraisers, supporting the study of the history and current practice of philanthropy and fundraising in the UK. One additional collection relates to the study of the history of pantomime and comic performance.
The collections included in this cataloguing project are: The papers of the John Ellerman Foundation, The papers of the Wates Foundation, The papers of the Hilden Charitable Trust, The papers of the Craigmyle Fundraising Consultancy, and The David Drummond Pantomime Collection.
The purpose of this role is to catalogue, preserve, and make available these archive collections and to promote the archives as a pre-eminent source of primary materials to enhance the study of philanthropy, fundraising, and theatre.
As a Project Archivist, you can expect to be involved in:
1. Organising and cataloguing the archive collections, including paper, objects, and photographic material.
2. Following agreed policies for the archive and contributing to the development of the archive as a resource of long-term value to all users.
3. Developing collection-specific procedures for all aspects of the curation of the archive, in collaboration with the Special Collections and Archives Manager, applying relevant standards to ensure it is discoverable, accessible, and used for research and educational activities.
What will you bring to the role?
1. Postgraduate and/or professional qualification in Archives and/or Records Management, or equivalent experience.
2. Experience/understanding of the curation of archival collections, including appraisal, sorting, arrangement, description, conservation, and digitisation of materials.
3. Knowledge of good practice in information governance of archival material, including records management, data protection, intellectual property rights, and copyright.
