Graduate Consultant - Water Quality (Southern Water)
Winchester, Hampshire
Hybrid-homebased with travel to client site.
Permanent, 3-month fixed term role with possibility of extension

The primary purpose of the role will be to attend and investigate water pollution incidents; undertake field-based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis across the Southern Water region.
35 hours per week; 9am until 5pm, five days per week (Monday to Friday), alongside a requirement to be on a standby rota, 1 week in 6, for weekend/public holiday and evening work.
More About The Role
* Attend and investigate water pollution incidents across the Southern Water region
* Undertake field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling
* The postholder will undertake desk-based data entry after collecting data in the field
* Undertake technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents, time limited in accordance with client requirements
* Maintain all equipment needed for site and maintain cleanliness of vehicle to a high standard and inform line manager if new equipment is needed
* Provide accurate and timely information to line management
* Support the team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels
* The postholder may be asked to attend monthly team meetings with client and contribute where appropriate
* Any other duties for which the post holder is qualified and able to carry out.
About You
* Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline
* Understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters
* A full clean UK driving licence
* Experience in scientific fieldwork, and an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers
* Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills
* Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail
* Able to work independently and as part of a team following precise protocols
* Motivated, friendly and confident interacting with clients
* Experience of aquatic macro-invertebrate sampling and aquatic macro-invertebrate identification skills to Family level would be beneficial
* GIS skills desirable
* Understanding of the role of regulators such as the Environment Agency
* Laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring, and environmental compliance
