Working within a team responsible to the team leader / shift coordinator, caring for patients and their carers and providing high standards of care for patients as part of a multidisciplinary professional team.
You will be responsible and accountable for the assessment and planning care for designated patients, implementing the appropriate care plan, promoting a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carers, visitors, and staff whilst complying with the Trust's values and expected behaviours.

Main duties of the job
1. Document and evaluate care given and discuss progress, condition and treatment with colleagues, alerting the primary team leader / nurse in charge of the shift of the patients' changing health care needs.
2. Act as an advocate for staff, patients and relatives at all times.
3. Using the information obtained from the assessment of the patient and from subsequent observations, identify the patient's individual nursing care needs, and plan and implement care.
4. Be aware of the side effects of any treatment in progress, and adopt a problem-solving approach to minimise the potentially adverse reactions.
5. To undertake intravenous drug administration, following successful completion of the Trust training and assessment, within six months of being in post.
6. Be aware of all hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure that these are observed.
7. Recognise patients' changing condition and seek the appropriate support and advice from senior staff.
8. Be involved in the direct delivery of skilled specialised nursing care with supervision until competent. E.g. wound dressings, removal of drains, and insertion of urinary catheters.
9. Collaborate with the team leader in the planning of a patient's discharge from hospital.
About us
The Coronary Care Unit at Torbay Hospital is looking for highly motivated, innovative and experienced senior nurse to join our dynamic team. The CCU consists of 8 monitored beds and a 6 bedded Chest Pain Unit. The unit directly admits patients suffering from a Myocardial Infarction and cares for other acute cardiac conditions.
We have close working relationships with Dunlop, Cardiac Catheter Suite, Cardiac Research team and Cardiac specialist nurses.
