Digital Accessibility Lead / Specialist - Technical/Development background required. - Hybrid working arrangement. - Salary aligned with market rates. We are hiring a Digital Accessibility Lead / Specialist to join a leading financial organisation's Digital Experience and Accessibility Team. This role focuses on ensuring platforms, websites, digital products, and services are inclusive and accessible for ALL. The team functions as an internal consulting team working with a wide range of stakeholders and peers. You will need to be technically astute, preferably from a development background, to answer complex questions and provide remediation for designers & developers, while also having a strong business sense and being well-versed in WCAG, W3C and general Accessibility standards and compliance. Location: Ideally, the successful candidate will be a commutable distance from one of the main UK offices: Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, or Birmingham for regular on-site work (up-to 3 days per week). There will also be occasional paid travel to support Accessibility events and high-profile meetings in London. What you will be doing in the first 12 months: Collaborating with digital teams globally, Governance Managers, and other Accessibility Leads/Specialists to support projects in meeting internal accessibility standards and programme requirements. Providing expert accessibility support for digital projects, including: Advising on vendor engagement processes. Reviewing accessibility audit / manual testing reports. Supporting teams in implementing audit findings and recommendations. Advising and guiding project teams on topics such as accessible design, UX, defect remediation, defect prioritisation, and quality assurance for post-fix testing. Acting as a subject matter expert on accessibility regarding policy, compliance, regulation, and risk when engaging with internal and external stakeholders. Working with third-party vendors to resolve accessibility challenges and improve ways of working. Skills and Experience Needed: 5 years of experience in a leadership role specifically focused on Digital Accessibility for websites, platforms, products, or services. A deep understanding of digital accessibility best practices and standards, including WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2. Hands-on experience with major assistive technologies, including but not limited to: JAWS, NVDA, TalkBack, VoiceOver, and Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Practical development experience with front-end coding (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). Knowledge of accessibility-specific technologies (e.g., WAI-ARIA). Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to articulate technical recommendations, manage risk, and address regulatory requirements. A strong understanding of the behaviours and needs of disabled users in relation to digital products and services. Experience ensuring disabled users are included in the research, design, development, and testing process. Exposure to mobile development technologies (Swift and Kotlin) is advantageous.
