The Sustainable Water Management business operates as a national team: work, training and technical expertise are shared around the local teams ensuring project allocation considers personal interests and personal development aspirations as much as practicable.
Our growing Manchester team comprises 8 flood risk and drainage professionals who work collaboratively on projects with our regional team of 21 across the North West and North Wales. We have a strong portfolio of major infrastructure projects such as Hynet, Mersey Tidal Barrage and East West Rail; and with clients such as Transport for Wales, National Grid, Network Rail and National Highways. We are seeing significant growth in wind farm, solar farm and carbon capture developments. We also continue to support our strong portfolio of Local Authority and Lead Local Flood Authority clients, including delivery of transport infrastructure schemes, flood investigations, flood risk management strategies, planning and SUDs review support.
A little more about your role…
Are you ready for the next step in your career? Are you eager to develop and help deliver and grow our portfolio of high-profile flood risk and drainage projects? We are seeking to appoint new colleagues who have experience in the delivery of flood risk and consequence assessments and sustainable drainage strategy solutions to work collaboratively on technically complex projects for a range of clients. Working as part of our national team, the successful candidate will also be able to work seamlessly across other technical areas within the Sustainable Water Management team. This includes but is not limited to LLFA technical services, Water EIA input, permitting applications, drainage design, SAB submissions in Wales (extending into England in due course). Your work will be varied and challenging and is likely to include the following:
* Carrying out and supervising (depending on experience) the completion of FRAs and Drainage Strategies for a variety of schemes
* Prepare successful SAB submissions with Welsh Local Authorities
* Deliver Section 19 Flood Investigations
* Have technical oversight and training of junior consultants as appropriate to your experience, ensuring high-quality outputs
* Support tendering and work winning activities of the team
* Taking leadership of certain project management activities, including financial and programme management
* Be multi-disciplinary and client-facing, co-ordinating project meetings both internally and externally
* Communicating and liaising effectively and efficiently with the project team (both the Sustainable Water Management team and the wider business)
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
Skills / Experience
* Flood Risk and Consequence Assessments preparation in England and Wales, and experience in one or more of the typical supporting skills including flood risk modelling, flood risk strategy development or Water EIA, at least some of which should have been in consultancy
* Drainage Strategies and SAB submissions in Wales
* Drainage design using AutoCAD and hydraulic modelling, using industry-standard software (e.g. Causeway Flow/Microdrainage, InfoWorks)
* Familiarity with any industry-standard geographical information systems (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo)
* Knowledge of the regulatory context for flood risk planning and sustainable drainage approvals in the UK
* Technical inputs for planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Some experience in supporting commercial aspects and project management
Qualifications
* A degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science or engineering discipline is essential
* Actively working towards chartered status with IEng, C.WEM or CEng
