Job overview
Are you an experienced Cardiac Catheter Laboratory nurse? If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join the Cardiology team here at Darent Valley Hospital within the interventional specialty. You will be given allocated responsibility for specific aspects of the efficient running of the interventional cardiology service, which will be identified with the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse. You will need to be an advanced and experienced clinical practitioner, with proven competence within the Cath Lab environment.
Main duties of the job
The post will involve working closely with the whole cardiology team and leading the nursing team to deliver high quality care to our patients. You will be a skilled and competent scrub and circulating nurse who has the ability to teach junior members of staff in the Cath Lab.
You will be responsible for the day to day management of the Heart Centre Cath Lab services and will be expected to deputise for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence. This will include acting as a senior clinical source of expertise for interventional cardiology procedures, and maintaining standards of nursing care at optimum levels in the Heart Centre.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will work in partnership with the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse, deputising in all aspects of the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse job description in their absence. They will have allocated responsibility for specific aspects of the efficient running of the interventional cardiology service at Darent Valley Hospital, which will be identified with the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse.
They will be an advanced and experienced clinical practitioner, with proven competence within the catheter laboratory environment and will be required to provide line management to allocated members of the nursing team of the Heart Centre. They will be actively involved with the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse, in initiating and maintaining relevant educational programmes for nurses & AHP’s within the Heart Centre and within the Trust in general.
The post holder will act as an expert in scrubbed and circulating duties pertaining to interventional cardiology, sharing the responsibility for the teaching of learners in this skill.
The post holder will be expected to suggest and participate in appropriate audit projects to ensure the continued development of cardiology services relevant to the Heart Centre, and ensure that all service activity is accurately and appropriately recorded.

Experience
* Substantial experience of working in interventional cardiology setting
* Experience of acting as a line manager or mentor/coach
* Experience of running an interventional cardiology service
* Recognised management course (or prepared to take)
* Budgetary management experience
