Job overview
Due to the retirement of the current post holder, we are looking for an experienced pharmacist with excellent communication skills, leadership skills and clinical pharmacy knowledge to join the pharmacy team as Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Clinical Services.
You will work with the Chief Pharmacist to ensure the Trust-wide delivery of safe, effective and efficient medicines optimisation and pharmacy services to patients and other service users in the Trust. As a member of the Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team, you will assist in leading the development of medicines optimisation and pharmacy services throughout the Trust.
You will manage medicines optimisation and pharmacy services colleagues throughout the Trust who are involved in providing services or supporting projects within the areas of responsibility of the Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Clinical Services. You will work with the Chief Pharmacist in ensuring objectives are met for Pharmacy.
Main duties of the job
You will be joining a friendly department with over 80 staff, including 22 other pharmacists with expertise in a wide range of specialities, in providing pharmacy services to children. Our Trust provides dedicated healthcare for children and young people, including highly specialised health care such as neurosurgery, oncology, endocrinology, specialist orthopaedics, neonatal surgery, metabolic disease, gastroenterology, respiratory diseases, intensive care, cystic fibrosis and neurology.
As Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Clinical Services you will be responsible for clinical pharmacy, patient safety and quality, medicines information, clinical trials, education, training and workforce development, and professional secretary to the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
* Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Master’s Degree in Clinical Pharmacy or the equivalent experience.
* Registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Member of Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group.
* Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Experience
* Highly experienced at senior management level
* Comprehensive understanding of systems relevant to the practice of pharmacy in hospitals
* Experience of service development and strategy development
* Experience of managing a pharmacy service
* Financial and budgetary experience
* Demonstrable evidence of managing change involving staff in a discrete pharmacy area
* Paediatric clinical pharmacy provision
* Experience in the supervision of trainee pharmacists
Knowledge and Skills
* Ability to evaluate situations and provide expert advice on issues such as patient treatment regimens and service developments
* Innovation / implementation skills to develop pharmacy services
* Ability to communicate complex information to colleagues, patients and relatives, clinicians and senior managers
* Computing skills to include a working knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems (e.g. CMM / Ascribe), the internet, Microsoft Office, Power Point, Word, Access and Excel and patient information systems
* Ability to deal with highly distressing situations
