Producer/Director – Suicide Prevention Film Unit
Organisation: Inside Job Productions (IJP)
Location: HMP Wandsworth
Contract: Part-time, 3 days per week (21 hours), 18-month fixed-term contract
Salary: £32 -34K (Pro-rata) dependent on experience
Holiday: 25 days per year plus bank holidays (pro rata)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Producer/Director for a pioneering project, in partnership with the Samaritans, aimed at addressing suicide and self-harm prevention within the prison system. This role will involve producing a series of films that provide guidance on managing mental health while in custody and upon release. The target audiences include prison staff (Year One) and prisoners (Year Two).
Key Responsibilities
1. Audience Research: Conduct market research with prison staff and prisoners to ensure content meets their needs and uses engaging production styles.
2. Film Production: Lead the filming, editing, and production of 10 films for prison staff and another 10 films for prisoners.
3. Collaborative Development: Work closely with partner organizations, mental health charities, and prison mental health providers to ensure content is accurate, safe, and relevant.
4. Content Evaluation: Oversee screening events in multiple London prisons and gather feedback to improve impact.
5. Team Management: Supervise and mentor a Production Trainee to assist with operational and filming logistics.
6. Project Oversight: Report to the CEO or Project Director, manage production standards, and present updates at quarterly Advisory Board meetings.
Knowledge, skills and experience
1. Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and lead a team.
2. Technical Expertise: Proven experience in self-shooting and editing, especially with vulnerable groups.
3. Communication Skills: Ability to influence and communicate effectively with both internal teams and external partners.
4. Social Impact Experience: A background in social impact work, ideally within the criminal justice sector.
