Applications are invited for a research technician position in the laboratory of Dr Nikola Ojkic at the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences, Queen Mary University of London. Our group applies imaging, image analysis, and microbiological techniques to understand how antibiotics affect bacterial growth and how antibiotic treatments ultimately lead to bacterial cell death.
Your primary responsibilities will be to:
1. Develop bacterial cytological profiling and imaging protocols.
2. Obtain high-quality images using phase contrast, confocal, and super-resolution microscopy.
3. Train lab colleagues and students and support their experimental work with bacteria growth, basic molecular biology approaches, and imaging.
About You
You should have a relevant BSc/BA degree (MSc desirable), extensive experience with molecular biology techniques (gene cloning and purification), and live cell imaging with an interest in bacterial response to antibiotics and bacterial cell biomechanics. You should be able to plan experiments independently, develop research protocols, and maintain good records. You should be well-organised and have a proactive, self-motivated attitude. Importantly, you should be keen to support other team members.
You will be part of a collaborative, international team of research staff and students and will be able to develop new skills and mentor other lab members.
