Senior Project Engineer - Birmingham Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager and based at an aerospace and defence focused manufacturing organisation in Birmingham, the Senior Project Engineer is to manage heat exchanger projects from the initial customer requirements/technical specifications through development and certification, to a fully productionised component/system. Specific responsibility is to manage project spend on NPI projects, against budget, including internal and external test house costs. Other responsibilities include: - To liaise with \'customers\' to achieve a competitive optimum solution - Visit customers, UK and overseas for technical reviews, presentations making decisions on behalf of the company - Design heat exchangers, valves and systems in conjunction with the design team to comply with extensive CAA, FAA, MOD and FAR requirements - covering the fields of heat transfer, stress, vibration etc... - Interpret the technical requirements of customer specifications, and prepare technical proposals and other technical documents - Co - ordinate manage all aspects of each project from development through to initial production stage to ensure time scales/schedules are achieved - Preparation of test/certification and development programmes for components certification to required standards. Supervise the testing and preparation of development and flight qualification test reports for submittal to the relevant aviation authority - Originate new design concepts to required standards and prepare development programmes to qualify design for future use - Analysis of test data derived from project programmes and modifying internal computer programs as required - Advise on design/requirement of production/laboratory test rigs - Writing and maintenance of all Product Engineering computer programs - Prepare CER and PAR\s for projects and monitor/manage spend against these documents - Provide technical guidance, supervision and mentoring as well as deputising Primary working relationships and interfaces include: Operations, Manufacturing, Sales, Quality, Finance, After - Market and Purchasing Management team. In addition the relevant Program Managers, Designers and any Team Leader and / or team members relevant to the NPI process. In addition, internal and external customers and supplier liaison / visits are an essential part of the job function. Core key skills and competencies required: - System based thinking methodology is essential - Industries such as aerospace not essential, power, automotive, industrial, railway and other high technology industries is essential - Technical background as a Mechanical Engineer is essential - High numeracy skills are essential, design work along with financial acumen - Thermal module at university or thermal experiencing is essential - Experience of testing is essential - Design for manufacturing experience is essential - Project/design/validation/certification engineer experience is essential - Subsystem design experience not CAD Excel based scaling role is essential You should have experience of engineering practices in a design for manufacture environment and ideally be a time served apprentice with suitable qualifications. Experience of technical projects for a design for manufacture environment in a subsystem or component manufacturing environment is preferred.
