Trust Doctor in Older People Mental Health Services Inpatients
The role of the Trust grade doctor in Old Age Psychiatry is to ensure the provision of effective and efficient care under supervision in an inpatient setting.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To provide a medical service to in-patients in old age inpatient unit.
2. To promote and maintain a community philosophy in all aspects of practice, enabling a user-led and informed service.

Job Responsibilities
1. To ensure professional standards are maintained.
2. To liaise with other professionals and voluntary organisations.
3. To assist in training for students (e.g., nursing, occupational therapy, social care staff, psychotherapy, and medical).
4. To participate in monitoring and evaluating the quality and outcomes of service delivery.
5. To maintain a safe and therapeutic environment and practice.
6. To have a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act.
7. To ensure all mandatory training requirements are met.
8. To operate within all national and local policies and procedures.
9. To update and develop clinical skills in psychiatry in line with CPD requirements.
10. To keep accurate and clear records.
11. To adhere to Child Protection guidelines and procedures.
12. Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post, following discussion with the Consultant Psychiatrist and the Clinical Team Manager.
13. The post holder may be required to do joint visits or assessments with other members of Acute Mental Health Services. Travelling expenses will be paid accordingly.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBChB, MBBS or equivalent GMC registration.
* Must have visa/work permit to work in the UK.
* A minimum of one year experience/training in psychiatry.
* MRCPsych/Higher degree or equivalent in relevant field of medical, psychological, or other studies.
* Sub-speciality or other specialist clinical training relevant to post.
Experience
* Experience in approved training posts or previous experience relevant to this post.
* Ability to undertake independent assessments of inpatients and outpatients, especially elderly clients with dementia or organic disorder needs and produce safe and effective plans.
* Ability to determine if a patient requires hospital treatment.
* Ability to manage psychiatric emergencies.
* Application of evidence-based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group.

* Meet specifications set out in the GMC Guidance: Duties of a Doctor.
* Mobility necessary to fulfil requirements of post.
* Currently have the right to work in the UK.
* Car driver with own car.
