Job Summary: The TMV Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the installation, servicing, and testing of Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs) to ensure compliance with UK water safety regulations. This role involves carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), diagnosing faults, and ensuring compliance with Legionella Control (L8) and WRAS standards. The engineer will work across various settings, including healthcare, education, and commercial buildings, ensuring hot water systems function safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities: Installation & Maintenance: Install, commission, and maintain TMVs in line with BS EN 1111 and BS EN 1287 standards. Carry out routine servicing and adjustments to maintain safe water temperatures. Ensure TMVs are functioning correctly to prevent scalding risks and Legionella growth. Testing & Compliance: Perform temperature testing and annual fail-safe checks in compliance with HSG274 and HTM 04-01 guidelines. Carry out Legionella risk assessments and complete water hygiene checks. Accurately document test results and maintenance records for compliance audits. Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and rectify faults in TMVs and associated domestic hot water (DHW) systems. Repair or replace faulty TMV components to maintain compliance. Provide recommendations for system improvements to clients. Client & Team Coordination: Liaise with site managers, NHS estates teams, school facilities teams, and commercial clients to schedule maintenance works. Provide professional advice on water safety and TMV maintenance best practices. Work efficiently to minimise disruption in operational environments such as hospitals, care homes, and schools. Qualifications & Experience: Essential: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing and Heating (or equivalent). Experience in TMV servicing, installation, and maintenance. Understanding of L8 ACOP (Approved Code of Practice) and water hygiene regulations. Ability to use water testing equipment and troubleshoot plumbing systems. Full UK driving licence (if travel is required). Desirable: WRAS Approved Plumber certification. Legionella Awareness Training (City & Guilds or equivalent). Experience working in NHS, care homes, schools, or large commercial buildings. Unvented Hot Water Systems (G3) qualification. Skills & Competencies: Strong technical knowledge of TMVs and plumbing systems. Good understanding of health & safety regulations and compliance. Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills for client interaction and reporting. Attention to detail and strong documentation skills. Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Field-based role, travelling to multiple client sites. Working in environments such as hospitals, schools, hotels, and commercial buildings. Ability to work in confined spaces and handle tools/equipment safely. May involve some out-of-hours or emergency call-outs (depending on the employer).
