About the Role
As a general Cardiologist, you will be delivering inpatient Cardiology care approximately one in five weeks and outpatient ambulatory services predominantly from our base in Hastings, but also at Napier and our rural hospitals in Wairoa and Central Hawke’s Bay.
There are many opportunities to develop subspecialist interests that will complement the department’s current service, with high levels of unmet need present in our community.
The department’s facilities allow echocardiography, CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI, exercise treadmill testing, ambulatory cardiac monitoring, a diagnostic angiography laboratory, and cardiac device implantation (as of this year). Proficiency in left and right heart catheterisation studies, temporary pacing wires, and pericardial drains is important.
About the Team/Service/Location
The team is supported by one registrar, a house officer, inpatient cardiology nursing staff, a nurse practitioner, several clinical nurse specialists, and senior cardiology outpatient nurses, two cardiac sonographers, and two cardiac physiologists.
We also have close ties with allied health services, other specialties within our hospital, as well as with Wellington Regional Hospital, our tertiary centre, which provides a comprehensive package of care including interventional cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery.
Hawke’s Bay offers excellent work-life balance, sun, beaches, exceptional outdoor adventures, great schools, mountains and skiing close by, wonderful food, stunning wineries, vibrant cities, and plenty more to boast about.
