THE DEPARTMENT
The Advisory Department is led by Alan Harris and comprises 6 teams: Asset & Investment Advisory, Development Advisory, Rating Advisory, Residential Valuation Advisory, Strategic Advisory, and Valuation Advisory.
Advisory brings together over 130 experts across all 4 of our national offices and benefits from a critical mass of expertise and diversity of experience. Projects can range from:
* Problem solving with valuation at its core
* Place-making the evolution of our town centres where we advise owners on asset management and repurposing
* Strategic development advice to the public and private sector on delivering their medium to long term objectives
* Minimising the costs of re-development for some of London’s largest developers through rating strategy
* Supporting developers to value land, be that for viability, acquisition, disposal or strategic advice
* Helping the owners and occupiers of major portfolios secure the correct model both operationally and financially through valuation, strategic thinking and problem solving
* Innovating through valuations of some of the most interesting public and private property portfolios
* Advisory is about extracting and unlocking value, interpreting policy to maximise benefits for our clients, counselling clients to achieve their goals and objectives, supporting clients’ critical thinking to improve the performance of their assets and simplifying complex problems and creating solutions.
THE TEAM
Residential Valuation Advisory (RVA) is the firm’s centre of excellence for residential-led valuation, and comprises three complementary workstreams - Valuation, Viability and New Settlements. Currently comprising 15 people, the team is looking to grow.
RVA is closely aligned with the firm’s planning and development focus, and offers considerable growth potential. Residential is the largest, most dynamic sector in UK real estate and the New Settlements team focuses on advising on housing and land matters which are key to the wider residential sector. Our team is involved in the delivery of some of the largest schemes in the UK. The market is constantly evolving and our clients need expert advisors to help them navigate the challenges and opportunities the sector brings.
RVA provides a range of consulting and technical disciplines, advising private and public sector landowners, as well as registered providers, housebuilders and funders on various development and investment matters.
THE ROLE
We are seeking an exceptional and enthusiastic Senior Surveyor to join the New Settlements workstream of RVA, based in our London office.
The New Settlements team has a blend of public (Homes England, DIO, Local Authority etc) and private sector clients (Grainger, Commercial Estates Group, Private landowners, Developers and Land Promoters). The team supports clients in providing consultancy from a development and valuation perspective, providing advice on wide ranging matters such as land assembly for large housing projects, land disputes, land promotion, landowner agreements as well as acquisition and disposal advice whilst working closely with Montagu Evans housing and land planning team and Legal Advisors on Expert Witness instructions. The team is also looking to grow its presence in the land disposal market working alongside colleagues within Development Advisory and Land & Living on greenfield land opportunities, linked to its strategic land advisory office.

The role involves:
* Joining a young, ambitious team which focuses on providing high quality residential-led consultancy advice
* Being challenged through a wide variety of interesting and complex work, finding solutions to clients’ problems
* Gaining experience working with a huge range of clients, including leading property companies, public sector bodies, developers and landowners
* A variety of work giving surveyors extensive scope to develop a broad range of experience and technical skills across the housing and land sectors
* Building technical expertise before beginning to transition from a technical adviser to business winner. Surveyors are encouraged to engage in appropriate business development and liaise with clients with other teams and sectors including Planning, Housing, Land and wider Advisory department
* Joining a team where there are no glass ceilings to restrict your ambition and a track record of organic career progression. Within RVA, 9 out of 14 fee earners and 4 out of 6 Partners joined Montagu Evans as graduates
The variety of work on offer gives Senior Surveyors extensive scope to develop a broad range of experience and technical skills. As a result, the RVA team has an excellent track record in providing a clear career progression pathway. Senior Surveyors will be encouraged to engage in appropriate Client Relationship Management and Business Development initiatives and be expected to liaise with clients directly.
Responsibilities
MAIN DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Preparation and analysis of data in order to support a range of consultancy, valuation and agency advice
* Preparing appraisals and valuations
* Preparing high quality written advice for clients including some provision of Red Book valuation reports
* Liaising with clients and wider project teams to discuss advice
* Attend and lead client meetings and presentations
* Providing support and training to graduates within the team
* Collaborating with a range of teams across the firm and taking an active role in firm-wide sector groups
* Raising your own and the team’s profile internally and externally with peers
* Working with colleagues on business development activities including input into tender opportunities
* Any additional duties as reasonably requested
Qualifications
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
* RICS qualified and an RICS Registered Valuer
* Knowledge of the planning system
* Good knowledge of Argus Developer, with a willingness to become expert
* Excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages
* Enthusiastic, self-motivated and proactive
* Personable and capable of working positively within a team
* Solution-orientated
* Strong attention to detail and high service delivery skills
* Able to listen, assimilate and act expeditiously
* Good report-writing ability
