An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clerk of Works to come and join a busy client in the Merseyside area.
As the experienced Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for overseeing the construction and adoption of highways and infrastructure works associated with new developments under Section 278 and Section 38 agreements. You will work closely with contractors, developers, and internal stakeholders to ensure that all works are carried out to the highest standards, in compliance with relevant legislation, design specifications, and the council's requirements.
The main duties of the experienced Clerk of Works are:
1. Inspect and monitor the construction of highways, drainage, and associated infrastructure works under Section 278/38 agreements to ensure they meet agreed standards.
2. Liaise with contractors and developers to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, and council requirements.
3. Conduct regular site visits to assess the quality of workmanship and materials used, identifying any issues or defects that need to be addressed.
4. Provide technical advice and guidance to contractors and developers on construction methods, materials, and standards.
5. Prepare detailed reports on the progress and quality of works, highlighting any non-compliance or issues that require attention.
6. Ensure that health and safety regulations are adhered to on all sites.
7. Work collaboratively with internal teams, including highways engineers and planning officers, to ensure seamless project delivery.
8. Assist in the handover and adoption of completed works to the council's highways department.
The key skills and requirements for the role are:
1. Relevant qualifications in civil engineering, construction, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a Clerk of Works or Site Inspector, particularly on highways and infrastructure projects.
3. In-depth knowledge of Section 278/38 agreements and highway adoption processes.
4. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and relevant legislation.
5. Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Full UK driving license.
