About the role
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Quality Advisor to join our Living Places team based across Southampton and East Sussex.
Please Note: A driving license would be beneficial due to the travel involved. This role will also require 3 days per week office based; these days will vary week by week.
Accommodation can also be provided for the days in the office if you live a considerable distance from the working locations.
Within this role you'll help deliver the project in accordance with customer and stakeholder requirements and commitments, including verification activities to demonstrate compliance against Balfour Beatty requirements, external accreditations, and industry good practice.
What you'll be doing
As a Quality Advisor, you'll ensure the business unit plans for delivering Quality Products and Services right first time, every time (both direct labour and through the supply chain), to support the external quality certification process and to drive the Elimination of Waste, Right First Time and reduction in the Cost of Quality all through:
* Ensuring local suitable Quality action plans are created and implemented by the Business Unit.
* Support the business unit external accreditation process (including ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001 and NHSS) to ensure it is able to operate in its chosen sector.
* Support less senior members of the team in their development.
* Support and facilitate Quality management planning (including contract quality plans and industry specific plans e.g. NHSS, gas, water, etc.).
* Ensure effective controls are in place across the whole project lifecycle.
* Challenging current systems and processes to ensure best practice and continual improvement.
* Support development of appropriate content for the business management system.
* Implementing effective root cause analysis and enable the identification of corrective actions.
* Facilitation of quality related improvement initiatives.
* Provide advice and coaching on Quality issues.
* Ensure business unit and contract awareness of Quality policy and standards.
* Provision of Quality related training to equip the business with the skills to drive improvements in Quality performance.
* Interface with audit function to support local processes.
* Ensure the business and contracts are compliant with ISO 9001 and other specific client/industry requirements.
* Where appropriate, support the business with regards specific client Quality interfaces.
* Where appropriate, provide Quality advice as part of the supplier/subcontractor assessment process.
* Where required, provide Quality input to the tender development and bidding process.
* Production of appropriate reports and management information.
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experiences are essential:
* Proven experience in Quality Management.
* Coaching skills.
* Training and facilitation skills and experience.
* Build strong relationships with delivery teams and project managers.
* Either a CQI Practitioner/Member or working towards practitioner/membership status.
* Competent user of modern office computer systems e.g. Microsoft Office.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
* A formal qualification in Quality Management e.g. Certificate in Quality Management or Diploma in Quality Management (UK Chartered Quality Institute, British Standards Institute or equivalent).
* Trained ISO 9001 Lead Auditor and/or Internal Auditor.
* Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma.
* Has an ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts.
* Pays attention to detail and sees things through to completion.
* Can deliver reports orally and written in an objective and persuasive manner.
* Has good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Is a self-starter who manages their own time and seeks to add value to their function.
