Find out more about the benefits of working for the University of Birmingham Background We are looking for students who can contribute in the following ways: Presenting and editing videos Creating and sharing social media posts Student blog writing Engaging and commenting on UoB Chinese social media channels (Xiaohongshu, WeChat, Weibo, etc) Role Summary You will have particular expertise/interest in creating content for social media, particularly Xiaohongshu, WeChat and Weibo. You may also have some experience in graphic design, including the creation of posts for social media. Excellent communication skills are key when producing visual and written content pieces, whilst also being able to communicate effectively with other content creators and the International Student Recruitment team. You will also suggest and produce creative and engaging forms of media and content, based off your knowledge of market needs. This post is available to both home and international students who are fluent in spoken and written Mandarin. The role will be on a part-time basis, with no more than 16 hours per week being required. Additionally, hours will not be on a week-by-week basis, rather you will form part of a pool of freelance content creators who will pick up briefs dependent on preference and availability. Main Duties Support the development and execution of multi-channel communication strategies aimed at the Chinese student community, as well as other student groups. Collaborate with the International Student Recruitment Team to gather feedback and propose enhancements for communication styles and techniques tailored to Chinese students. Identify and suggest creative communication opportunities, working with your fellow content creators to implement these initiatives into written briefs. Create, present, and edit engaging videos for the university’s Chinese social media channels based on provided briefs. Write insightful WeChat articles and blogs from your perspective as a student. Assist with other reasonable tasks as needed within the International Student Recruitment Team (e.g., support WeChat group Q and As). Act as an advocate for the University of Birmingham across a range of Chinese channels, engaging with posts and comments. Attend and complete all mandatory training and inductions. Person Specification Be proficient in both spoken and written Mandarin and English (Cantonese also desirable). Be enrolled in a University of Birmingham course for the duration of the role. A clear and demonstrable understanding about the nature of the diverse student community at the University of Birmingham; showing an awareness of our student demographics and understanding of the requirements of the student community at the University of Birmingham. Positive attitude and approach to achieving results (finding and using relevant learning opportunities to improve results). Knowledge of emerging Chinese social media trends and experience in the production of content for a variety of Chinese social platforms. Ideally experience of graphical design packages and associated editing technologies (e.g., Adobe software, capcut). Experience of video production and editing. Experience of copywriting, proofreading and content editing. Excellent interpersonal, organisational, spoken, and written communication skills to deal effectively, confidently, and appropriately with students and staff at all levels. High levels of attention to detail. An effective team player who can demonstrate that can work successfully as part of a team and self-direct workload and priorities. N.B.
