Role: Business Development Lead

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + Commission
The Opportunity
Our client, a dynamic start-up technology consultancy based in Manchester city centre, is seeking a Business Development Lead to drive growth across the technology sector, encompassing both public and private sector organisations. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of innovation and digital transformation, helping businesses and organisations overcome their challenges through bespoke technology solutions.
To be successful in the role, you will know the digital agency world because you have lived it for years. You will be able to articulate the value of digital transformation to a B2B or B2C client most importantly, as a digital native you can translate the trends and lingo of the digital world into something a C-level executive can understand, value and buy.
Key Responsibilities
Market Strategy & Business Planning
* Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy targeting organisations across public and private sectors, including government bodies, healthcare organisations, enterprises, and SMEs.
* Conduct market analysis to identify emerging opportunities, trends, and client needs, ensuring the consultancy’s services remain aligned and competitive.
Client Engagement & Relationship Building
* Build and nurture strong relationships with decision-makers in public and private sector organisations, positioning the business as a trusted partner for technology-driven transformation.
* Represent the business at key networking events, conferences, and forums to enhance its industry presence and reputation.
* Collaborate with potential clients to identify pain points and deliver tailored, innovative solutions aligned with their objectives.
Pipeline Development & Bid Management
* Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities to establish a strong, sustainable sales pipeline.
* Collaborate with internal teams to craft compelling proposals, tenders, and presentations tailored to both public and private sector requirements.
* Lead the bid process, ensuring all submissions reflect the consultancy’s value proposition and align with relevant procurement frameworks, including G-Cloud.
Collaboration & Project Oversight
* Work closely with delivery teams to ensure client projects are executed to a high standard, meeting or exceeding expectations.
* Provide insights from client engagements to shape the ongoing development of the consultancy’s offerings.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
* Achieve and surpass revenue targets through proactive and strategic business development efforts.
* Report on sales performance, pipeline health, and key market insights to senior leadership.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
* Proven track record in business development within the technology sector, with experience spanning public and private sectors.
* Strong knowledge of public sector procurement processes, including frameworks like G-Cloud, alongside familiarity with private sector procurement dynamics.
* Outstanding communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
* Consultative approach to client engagement, with the ability to diagnose needs and provide tailored solutions.
* Results-driven mindset, with a focus on achieving and exceeding sales targets.
* Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Desirable:
* Experience working in a start-up or scale-up environment, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
* An established network of contacts across both public and private sectors within the UK.
* Awareness of emerging technology trends, such as AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics, relevant to these sectors.
