This role involves teaching students ranging from as young as 5 up to the age of 18, depending on the class and the school. The schools cover a wide range of special needs, including but not limited to ASC, SLD, MLD, SEMH, PMLD, and ADHD.
As a special needs teaching assistant, you will need to have an understanding, calm, and patient approach to your teaching practice.
Responsibilities:
1. Support vulnerable children with special needs on a 1:1 basis, helping them with both academic and social development.
2. Work closely with other members of staff such as teachers, other TAs, and members of senior leadership to ensure that children are making progress and their needs are being catered for.
3. Follow the educational healthcare plan that has been set out.
4. Manage behaviors where required with consistency, empathy, and patience.
5. Effectively use support staff and communicate objectives clearly.
6. Maintain good communication with parents and SLT regarding student progress.
7. Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one.
