Healthcare Science Associate Practitioner
This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
Ideally, you will have a Level 4 Science Qualification (HNC/NVQ/Certificate of Achievement Part I & II) or an appropriate Level 3 qualification PLUS additional theoretical or applied training to diploma level equivalent.
However, if you have a degree - either a Science degree or an Arts degree, then we can offer you free training for this role, along with the opportunity to study for further qualifications to advance your career later if you so wish.
Please Note: Due to the fixed term nature of this role, on this occasion we will not be able to consider candidates who do not fulfil all the essential Qualifications &/or Knowledge (i.e. are working towards a Level 4 equivalent qualification or have significant previous experience).
Main duties of the job
As part of your duties, you will be trained to operate laboratory equipment to carry out diagnostic tests on patients. We are looking for a dynamic individual, ideally but not necessarily, with a background in science who is keen to learn and develop in a stimulating and rewarding environment. The Laboratory Medicine Department is made up of Biochemistry, Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Specialist Laboratories. On completion of full training, you will be expected to work in all these areas on rotation and contribute to the out of hours rota.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Knowledge
* Level 4 Diploma Health Science Or Appropriate NVQ 3 level plus additional theoretical or applied training in specific discipline to L4 diploma equivalent level (to include A-levels and the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part I and II)
* GCSE Maths, English, Science (Grade 9-4 - previously known as A-C Grade)
* Background knowledge of Pathology disciplines in particular Laboratory Medicine.
* Background knowledge of hospital specialties.
Experience
* Scientific background.
* Experience of working in a pathology laboratory at Associate Practitioner level.
* Experience of working with computerised data management systems.
