About the Company - This is a fantastic opportunity for a Civil Engineer with approximately 4–5 years’ post-graduate experience to take the next step in their career. You’ll be joining a respected and growing consultancy working across civil, structural, geotechnical, and infrastructure design projects, with a particular focus on sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and approvals for development schemes across the UK. The practice pride themselves on delivering practical, efficient, and innovative civil engineering design services. Work spans multiple sectors, including education, commercial, healthcare, residential, and regeneration schemes.
About the Role - As a Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and delivering sustainable drainage strategies and securing necessary technical approvals with the Environment Agency and local drainage authorities.
Responsibilities
* Design of foul and surface water drainage systems incorporating sustainable drainage techniques (SuDS)
* Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies for planning submissions
* Securing S104, S38, and S278 technical approvals from relevant authorities (EA, LLFAs, Water Companies)
* Producing detailed drawings for highways, drainage, and external works using AutoCAD and Civils 3D
* Hydraulic modelling using Causeway Flow (or similar)
* Liaising with internal teams and external consultants to coordinate design input
* Reviewing and supporting junior engineers where required
* Attending project and design meetings as necessary
Qualifications -
* Degree in Civil Engineering or related subject (MEng/BEng), ideally ICE-accredited
* Working towards professional membership (e.g., Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status)
Skills
* Proficient in AutoCAD and Civils 3D
* Experience using drainage design software such as Causeway Flow or MicroDrainage
* Strong technical writing skills for reports and planning documentation
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
* Demonstrated success securing S104/S38/S278 approvals
* Strong Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) and planning support experience
* Sound understanding of UK drainage design standards and SuDS guidance (e.g., CIRIA)
* Problem-solving, thrives in a collaborative environment
