The Senior Engineer performs engineering design review and analysis assignments normally involving a major project or several smaller or less complex projects. These projects by nature of their complexity and difficulty require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular field of engineering or science. Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods and procedures.
This job would suit a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer with already some years of specific experience.
What You Will Do:
* Offers technical advice to field operations and other technical offices.
* Proposes new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures or designs.
* Drafts technically accurate and timely reports, and responses.
* Interacts with clients to identify and resolve problems in the area of technical expertise.
* Works as a team member within the group, but may work autonomously most of the time.
* Implements and maintains ABS Quality System requirements relative to responsibilities after undergoing ABS Quality System training.
* Monitors the progress of all assigned projects. Ensures the delivery of high quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.
* Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity and timeliness of action of all assigned projects.
* Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility. Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary. Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.
* Participates in the development and changes of Rules.
* Prepares written response to clients in accordance with established procedures.
* Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally.
* Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids and other presentation materials.
* You will perform work related to the following, firstly under guidance and later independently:
o Vessel structure scantling review
o Stability modelling and review
o Load Line & Tonnage calculations
o Fire and Safety plan review
o General plan approval work for a variety of marine and offshore vessel and units
o Project management/Work coordination
* You will be responsible for providing work within the agreed time frame, deliverable and the applicable procedure.
* You will also take part in the management of internal and external client relationships.
* You will work as a team member within the group, but you will work autonomously, once trained, with minimal supervision.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
* B.S. degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or other related disciplines; an M.S. is preferred.
* Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.
* Exposed to Finite Element Method (course work or supervised research).
* At least 5 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Demonstrates understanding and ability to apply fundamental classification and quality concepts, practices and procedures.
* Knowledge of related technical disciplines required.
* The ability to identify, analyze and propose solutions to problems (i.e., the competence to demonstrate complex problem-solving skills).
* Good command of the English language.
* Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
* Ability to work well with others.
* Should have advanced practical industry related experience.
* Knowledge of applicable Rules and Regulations and impact of Rule applications and interpretations.
* The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers.
* Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.
Reporting Relationships:
The incumbent reports to a Managing Principal Engineer.
