Join us as a Senior Electrical / System Engineer in our Nuclear & Power Division and you'll deliver innovative consultancy advice to support our clients through the completion of safety assessments, engineering / design substantiation and operational support.
In the Electrical and System Engineering teams, you will join an expanding group supporting power generation, nuclear new build and decommissioning markets. You’ll help solve a wide variety of interesting problems for our clients during a significant period of growth. As you progress you will develop and mentor teams of engineers to further support our growth.

Your purpose:
The role will entail providing advice during the design, operation and decommissioning of nuclear and power generation facilities. This may include the following:
1. Provision of specialist consultancy advice on power station high voltage apparatus.
2. Operational & Maintenance technical support including: trouble-shooting, condition assessment, failure investigation, performance optimisation, legislative compliance and process safety to operational nuclear, thermal and renewable power generation sites.
3. Specification of plant and equipment to achieve process objectives.
4. Preparation of technical guidance documents and engineering standards for ongoing asset management.
5. Plant assessments and life-extension exercises to assist Clients with investment decision making processes.
6. Review of plant equipment, systems and operating regimes to identify problems and develop improvement and upgrade plans.
7. Review and assessment of plant in the role of both owner’s and bank’s engineer.
8. Technical due diligence assessment of assets to support potential acquisitions.
9. Design, manufacture and repair advice on high voltage electrical machines for power generation and large industrial applications.
10. Preparation and delivery of technical training courses.
Other key aspects of the role will include assisting in the production of bids and proposals and implementing and contributing to safety initiatives. You will also liaise with operators, designers and clients, building a strong relationship with them.
What you can bring?
In addition to having excellent communication, presentation and problem-solving skills you will also be able to demonstrate the following:
1. Honours degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications & experience.
2. Relevant industry experience.
3. Technical practitioner able to demonstrate good engineering judgement and with experience in using fundamental engineering skills.
4. Record of supporting technically challenging projects.
5. Excellent numeracy, written and verbal communication skills with ability to present arguments both verbally and written. Able to produce and review/correct high-quality technical reports.
6. Motivated and driven to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
7. Awareness of their own technical limitations and using the help and support of others to deliver.
8. Flexible approach as required for site work on new and existing power plants and applying skills in new areas.
9. Ability to manage small site teams and ability to work on own and as part of a team.
10. Competent commercial awareness and ability to positively influence key decision-makers in Client organisations to gain new revenue streams (Desirable).
11. Membership of IET and Chartered Engineer status (Desirable).
You will be able to demonstrate experience in some (but not necessarily all) of the following areas:
1. Excellent understanding of High Voltage (HV) electrical machines and systems.
2. Expertise in power station condition monitoring techniques.
3. Thorough knowledge of failure mechanisms and ability to contribute to investigations.
4. Excellent understanding of power generation technologies and HV electrical rotating and static plant in particular.
5. Thorough knowledge (in general and for HV Electrical work in particular) of site safety systems, preparation of risk assessments and method statements.
6. Operational plant experience to allow troubleshooting based on real plant issues gained from operator and consultancy provider perspectives.
7. Experience of design and testing of electrical protection systems for power generation plant.
