Robert Graham Ltd., an Independent Whisky Bottler, Spirits Retailer, and Cigar Emporium, is a business steeped in tradition and excellence. We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-Time Retail & Lounge Assistant to join our team at our Cambridge Store on a minimum hours contract, who would have availability to work extra shifts to assist during traditionally busier periods, and to cover staff holidays.
About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Whisky and Cigar Retail & Lounge Assistant to join our Cambridge team. This role requires a strong understanding of premium spirits and cigars, providing exceptional customer service and personalised recommendations to enhance each customers experience. The successful candidate will ensure that our guests receive expert guidance while maintaining an inviting, professional, and well-organised store environment.
Please note that our Cambridge Store and Lounge benefits from the Specialist Tobacconists' Exemption under Section 7 of the Smoke-free (Exemptions and Vehicles) Regulations 2007 of the Health Act 2006, and as such the sampling of cigars and pipe tobaccos is permitted within the store.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Customer Service
o Greet and engage with customers in a warm and professional manner.
o Provide expert recommendations on whisky and cigars based on customers’ preferences and needs.
o Offer tastings or demonstrations when appropriate to enhance customer experience.
o Build lasting relationships with regular clientele, offering personalised shopping experiences.
o Assist customers in selecting products and processing transactions using our EPOS system.
o Drive store sales by upselling and cross-selling products.
o Maintain knowledge of current promotions and special offers.
o Educate customers on product features, history, and pairings (e.g., whisky and cigar combinations).
2. Product Knowledge
o Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, new releases, and heritage of premium whiskies and cigars.
o Continuously develop an in-depth knowledge of the store’s product range.
o Attend training sessions and tastings to refine product knowledge.
3. Store Maintenance
o Ensure the store is visually appealing and fully stocked, arranging displays and products attractively.
o Participate in maintaining the proper care and storage of cigars in humidors.
o Assist with stock checks and inventory management, reporting low stock or discrepancies.
4. Compliance
o Adhere to all licensing and legal requirements related to the sale of alcohol and tobacco.
o Enforce age restrictions by verifying customers’ identification when necessary.
Skills & Qualifications
* Experience in retail, especially in luxury goods, whisky, cigars, or hospitality is preferred.
* Knowledge of different whisky and cigar regions / country of origin, brands, and types is an advantage.
* Excellent communication skills and a passion for delivering top-tier customer service.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
* Strong sales skills with the ability to engage customers and close sales.
* Basic math skills for handling transactions.
