The Radiotherapy service at QEHB, with circa 100 staff, provides approximately 4500 new patients per year with world-class radiotherapy treatments. The service is of the highest calibre and makes us a leading department, providing exemplary patient care twinned with the latest in Radiotherapy technology that sees us treat over 300 patients per day.
We are now looking to recruit several Therapeutic Radiographers with NHS experience, who are confident, highly motivated, and forward-thinking with a passion for patient care and service development. The department has undergone significant change with new programmes of work aimed directly at supporting our excellent Radiographers. As a band 6, you can expect 1:1 additional support from our band 7's and 8's, and department-delivered programmes aimed at your development to achieve your career aspirations.
Successful applicants will be joining a team that delivers one of the highest percentages of IG-IMRT treatments in the U.K and treats a large number of SABR patients for all commissioned indications. Our breast patients are treated with SGRT, and DIBH is offered to all appropriate patients who have left-sided breast cancer. We are one of two leading centres delivering radiotherapy for paediatrics in the Midlands that specialise in SGRT, intensity-modulated TBI & CSRT.
In addition, we are also a reference site for VisionRT and Accuray.
Main duties of the job
You will be an experienced radiographer with proven clinical and supervisory skills responsible for supporting a band 7 on a treatment unit and working as part of a team of radiographers to provide safe and accurate highly specialised radiotherapy treatment for patients.
You will manage a clinical workload ensuring that all treatments and procedures are delivered safely and correctly whilst maintaining high standards of technical ability and patient care. There is a requirement to work at an advanced level promoting best practice, giving expert advice, support and guidance to junior staff and the multidisciplinary team.
We have a variety of specialised equipment including two Phillips CT scanners, CyberKnife, two Tomotherapy HD units, Radixact, HDR, and six Elekta linear accelerators all of which have AlignRT installed. You will have opportunities to be rotated throughout the various treatment rooms we have.
All new staff will have a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate service demands as there is a requirement to routinely cover extended day working Monday to Friday between 7.30am to 8pm and occasional bank holidays and weekends.
You will also work with the wider band 7 team on operational input into the department and staff-related matters as well as providing coaching support to shape the development of junior staff.

Qualifications
* *Qualified Radiographer (eg. Diploma of the College of Radiographers -- Therapy / Degree in Therapeutic Radiography)
* *Current state registration
* *Attendance of recent relevant postgraduate courses and study days including assessment of undergraduates
* *Evidence of interest and commitment in working towards further professional development and qualification
* *Working towards or willing to undertake study for a further professional qualification
Experience
* *Experience of working clinically within the NHS as a radiographer on the full range of radiotherapy equipment which will have led to the acquisition of sound and well-established theoretical and practical knowledge and successful experience of working and learning in multi-professional teams
* *Experience in assessing and teaching trainee radiographers
* *Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns
* *Specialist knowledge of clinical radiotherapy including potential radiation risks, acute patient side effects and their effective management
* *An active awareness of relevant legislation, national cancer standards and professional guidelines
* *Experience of undertaking clinical audits and surveys
* *Experience of working in the NHS
Additional Criteria
* *Ability to communicate articulately (written, verbal and non-verbal) and provide information across professional boundaries.
* *Good numerical skills for calculating and checking complex treatment plans.
* *Proven ability to accurately interpret planning images and radiotherapy treatment prescriptions.
* *Very good technical and manual dexterity skills required to physically operate equipment in a field of rapid technological change.
* *Good reasoning skills and an ability to use initiative and judgement in situations where there is a variance from routine/expected.
* *Able to assimilate information and formulate ideas/projects/developments.
