Cedar is currently seeking an Interim Head of Finance to join a leading NHS healthcare provider for a 6-month contract. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing team and contribute to the strategic financial management of the organisation.
About the Role
As Head of Finance - Commissioning & Benchmarking, you will:
Lead the management of provider activity and agreements, including Long-Term Agreements (LTAs), high-cost exclusions, and individual patient funding requests.
Oversee financial commissioning aspects for residents, ensuring robust financial flows and reserves management.
Provide expert financial advice for clinical service development business cases and benchmarking initiatives.
Manage and develop the Finance Commissioning and Costing & Benchmarking team (8 staff), driving innovation and performance improvements.
Represent the organisation in key meetings and forums, deputising for senior finance leaders as required.
This role demands a strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex financial frameworks, lead negotiations, and manage sensitive and high-stakes situations effectively.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications: CCAB-qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience. Evidence of continuous professional development is essential.
Experience: Extensive NHS finance experience, including senior management roles. A strong background in commissioning, costing, and strategic financial planning is vital.
Skills: Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure. Advanced IT literacy, particularly in Excel, is required.
Knowledge: In-depth understanding of NHS finance regimes, commissioning arrangements, and relevant Welsh Government and Department of Health guidance.

This role may require travel between sites, so a full UK driving license is essential
