Immigration Paralegal
Maya and Co Solicitors is a Coventry-based, growing law firm, that specializes in immigration law and is seeking an Immigration Paralegal to join our team. We are looking for an individual who is interested in working with individuals and who wants to make a positive impact on the community.
Job Description
The Immigration Paralegal will work closely with our immigration solicitor to represent clients in immigration matters. The ideal candidate will be able to provide support in areas such as case management, attend on client and trial preparation. The position requires the ability to work independently and with others. The position may require some travel as needed.
Responsibilities
* Provide casework and administrative support to our staff. In particular, taking initial instructions, taking further instructions where necessary, drafting statements and preparing other documents for entry clearance/Home Office applications and for court hearings, instructing medical and country experts, assisting with advising clients under supervision.
* Conduct interviews with prospective applicants for immigration visas; assisting in the preparation of these interviews for court filing.
* Preparing briefs for trial; preparing witness notes; organizing witnesses and other documents related to the trial; assisting in the preparation of these applicants for court filing; attending conferences and court.
* Preparing applications to meet Home Office requirements (incl drafting application forms, index of documents and letters of representations).
* Provide clients with information relating to progress on their existing cases.
* Provide information on immigration and asylum law and answer enquiries from clients and deal with telephone and drop-in callers where appropriate.
* Other duties as assigned.
Essential Criteria
* Degree level education, similar paralegal jobs or studies or equivalent or if not a degree then at least 12 months previous immigration experience.
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and contract targets.
* Ability to work on own initiative and prioritize own work.
* An understanding and sensitivity to other cultures and commitment to Equal Opportunities.
* You should also have a commercial awareness and practical IT skills. It is essential that you have strong ethical standards, fantastic team spirit, but most importantly be humble and passionate about the work carried out.
