About the Role: To support their growth in supplying the defence industry, our client is seeking an experienced Quality Control Inspector to join their team. This critical role ensures that their products, including machined, welded and coated components, meet the highest quality standards and codes, including ASME IX, Defence standards, and other customer specifications. Our client has over 130 years of expertise in the fabrication and machining of large, complex, pressure-retaining assemblies across the aerospace, subsea, defence, and marine industries. With ASME and Chinese TSG approvals, and extensive experience working with defence standards, they are ideally positioned as a global manufacturing partner for pressure-retaining equipment. Key Responsibilities: Perform detailed welding inspections in line with ASME IX, UK Defence standards, and customer specifications, using appropriate NDT methods such as DPI. Conduct precise dimensional inspections of fabricated, machined, and welded components to ensure they meet engineering tolerances using tools like callipers, micrometres, and CMM. Verify the quality of coatings applied to products by conducting surface preparation checks, thickness measurements, and adhesion tests, ensuring durability and corrosion protection in line with coating standards. Inspect raw materials, in-process products, and final components for compliance with specifications, ensuring that any non-conformance issues are quickly addressed. Ensure products meet the specified acceptance criteria, including ASME IX, UK Defence standards, and relevant coating specifications, while maintaining full compliance with customer requirements. Maintain accurate inspection records and reports, highlighting any non-compliance and collaborating with production, project and quality teams to resolve issues. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to reduce defects, ensure dimensional accuracy, and maintain product consistency. Support in the development of SOP for various inspection processes. Support the completion of FAIR assisting the Quality Engineer. Who They're Looking For: Qualifications: CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector (Essential) PCN Level 2 - VT & PT. (Essential) PCN Level 2 - RT (Desirable) ASNT Level 2 - VT & PT (Desirable) ASNT Level 2 - RT (Desirable) NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector Level 1 or similar (Desirable). NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience. Experience and Skills: Minimum 3 years Quality Inspection roles. In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001:2015. Good understanding of GD&T and measurement processes. Ability to read engineering drawings. Good knowledge and experience of using CMM machines (FARO) Experience with ERP systems. Experience working with quality plans and ITPs. Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach. Methodical, organised work style. Proficiency in root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Why, 8D). General knowledge of fabrication, welding, and machining processes. Familiarity with ASME BPVC and UK DEF STAN is advantageous.
