RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage a caseload of multi-track clinical negligence and personal injury costs files, including high-value and complex claims such as birth injuries, brain injuries, and other catastrophic matters.
2. Draft a full range of legal costs documents including Bills of Costs, Budgets (e.g., Precedent H/T), Points of Dispute (PODs), Replies, N260s, and Applications.
3. Prepare for detailed assessment proceedings and assess recoverable costs.
4. Provide clear and accurate costs advice and estimates throughout the lifecycle of each case.
5. Negotiate technical costs disputes, predominantly handling receiving party clinical negligence and personal injury cases.
6. Negotiate settlements with opposing parties and liaise with solicitors, external counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure swift and fair resolution.
7. Instruct counsel when required for advocacy or complex negotiation matters.
8. Maintain compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Legal Aid and Standard costs processes, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
9. Demonstrate excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills to manage a varied workload and meet competing demands.
Required Skills and Experience:
1. At least 1 year experience independently running your own caseload of personal injury or clinical negligence cost files under minimal to no supervision. Ideally you will have 5+ years experience with the ability to hit the ground running but there are two positions available so they're open on the level of experience you have.
2. Proven experience in costs drafting for clinical negligence and personal injury cases, ideally high-value and complex claims.
3. Strong background in drafting Bills of Costs, Budgets, Points of Dispute, Replies, and Applications. Expertise in negotiating technical costs disputes in receiving party claims.
4. Ability to manage a multi-track caseload from inception to completion.
5. Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience liaising with solicitors, counsel, and external parties.
6. Proficiency with case management systems and managing cost assessments and recovery processes.
The firm offers flexible working with no set days required in the office. As long as the work is being completed at a high standard, the firm is happy for you to work anywhere in the UK. However, they do ask you attend the office on the odd occasion so catch up with your colleagues and feel a part of the team. They also encourage personal and professional development and would support the ACL qualification if this is something you wanted to obtain. Up to 25 days holiday + bank.
