About HMS Unicorn
HMS Unicorn is the third oldest ship still afloat and one of the six oldest ships in the world, launched in 1824. Now a historic ship and Accredited Museum, it is based in City Quay, Dundee, offering visitors the chance to explore four decks of naval history. Managed by the Unicorn Preservation Society, HMS Unicorn is dedicated to preserving maritime heritage and inspiring visitors through lifelong learning and engagement with its unique 19th-century naval history.
What will you do as a Fundraising Officer?
On behalf of the Unicorn Preservation Society, BTA are excited to recruit for a pivotal role supporting HMS Unicorn’s Bicentenary celebrations and the ambitious Project Safe Haven (PSH), which involves relocating the ship to the East Graving Dock and developing a purpose-built museum and visitor centre. This role, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF), is integral to both the Bicentenary programme and the future success of PSH.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Museum Director and Development Fundraiser, playing a key role in identifying and securing various funding streams, supporting continuous operations, and driving the growth of HMS Unicorn’s individual giving and “ShipMates” membership scheme.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will bring:
* Demonstrated experience in charity fundraising across a variety of methods.
* Proficiency in press, social media, and communication strategies.
* Strong administrative and IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
* An understanding of the role of volunteers in a voluntary organisation.
* Ability to plan, manage workloads, and work to set goals and targets.
* Strong networking and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
* Knowledge of grant and trust applications (Desirable).
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to contribute to the future of HMS Unicorn and its Bicentenary celebrations.
