Working as an integral part of the Operationsteam you will be part of a team that are responsible for managingmaintaining and improving the critical network infrastructure andprocesses.
While commercial experience as a NOCEngineer in an ISP is beneficial having the aptitude anddemonstrable skills necessary to fulfill this role is moreimportant. Experienced members of the team will help you developyour skills and confidence.
As a valuable memberof a diverse team consisting of Network and Infrastructureengineers your role will involve seamless collaboration with yourcolleagues. Additionally you will engage in interactions withvarious internal and external stakeholders including 3rd partysuppliers technical support and provisioning teams. Effectivecommunication skills are crucial as you will need to convey ideasand information at an appropriate technical level based on youraudiences understanding.
You will work veryclosely with the Network Engineering team and as such need to havea good allround understanding of networks andsystems.
Importantly Network Operations Engineersmust develop a solid understanding of the products and processesthey must be keen to learn able to use their experience andinitiative to tackle a broad range of problems and contribute tothe growing success.
The requires you to be partof a rota providing 247 support for our key ISP services as well ascovering both planned and unplanned out of hours work asrequired.
Working within an ITIL based frameworkthe NOC Engineers ensure network and systems availability andperformance whilst supporting and monitoring key KPIs andSLAs.
The NOC are integral to the Major Incidentprocess with a NOC engineer being the incident manager ensuringcommunications to customer and internal staff are prompt andrelevant ensuring the incident is with the correct resolver group(internal teams or external suppliers) ensuring they give updatesand managing the incident to resolution.
You willbe part of a wider engineering team managing a variety ofengineering and technology based projects covering ConnectivitySecurity Network Expansion Hosting and Cloudsolutions.
Reporting to the NOC Team Leader youmust have a demonstrated track record within this field. This rolecommands a board range of skills from networking to systemsengineering enterprise applications to awareness of industrytechnologies.
KeyResponsibilities
* Partof a 24x7x365 shift rotation
* Ensure stable andreliable network services (e.g. access products service networksand core network etc)
* Managing major incidentswithin the network and infrastructure affecting our customerbase.
* Daytoday network and performancemonitoring of the UK national network.
* Networktroubleshooting and fault analysis; hardware troubleshooting andrepair.
* Trouble ticket generation and response;carrier interface and escalations.
* Deploymentand maintenance of network monitoring analysis and reportingtools.
* Application of configuration changes viaour change control systems andprocesses.
* Installation of network hardware andsoftware.
* Provide 3rd level support to thewider business divisions on singletonfaults
* Provide incident response and managementduring periods of network or servicefailures.
* Produce and maintain projectdocumentation in line with our projectprocesses
Skills &experience
* Previousexperience of working on network equipment in an IT environment alarge NOC or other such company associated withnetworking.
* Experience with ticket triage andeffective prioritisation
* Ability to workautonomously and manages own workloadefficiently
* CCNA certified or equivalent levelof knowledge.
* Solid understanding of some orall the following technologies: IP Protocols (ICMP UDP TCP); IPfiltering and Firewalling; Routing Protocols (BGP OSPF ISIS); MPLS;Ethernet
* Experience with some of the followingis preferred: Juniper Cisco Adva
* BasicLinux/UNIX skills ideal but notessential.
