VACANCY FOR HEAD GROWER
£14 per hour, £21,392 per annum
32 HOURS PER WEEK APRIL – OCTOBER
24 HOURS PER WEEK NOVEMBER TO MARCH
Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is a charity established in 1980 to promote the health and wellbeing of people across Leeds and to provide education in agriculture, horticulture, and the natural environment.
Our one acre Market Garden operates a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) box scheme as well as providing education and skills development in food growing. We are seeking a Head Grower to manage all aspects of the Market Garden including:
1. Line managing staff and providing ongoing training
2. Implementing the year-round fruit and vegetable growing schedule & volunteer program
3. Planning and overseeing the Market Garden budget alongside the Farm CEO and Finance Officer
4. Responsible for the ongoing propagation, maintenance, harvest, safe storage, and distribution of all crops
You will have a few years of experience in growing fruit & vegetables, preferably in a commercial setting, a qualification in horticulture, and a strong theoretical understanding of edible horticulture and organic gardening principles. You will also have strong organisational and administrative skills including budget setting and financial management.
The Head Grower will be part of the Farm’s Senior Management Team.
The role requires the physical endurance to work full consecutive days outdoors in all weathers, on steep slopes.
This role requires enhanced DBS vetting.
